A hair conditioning/long hair question
Puleaze...someone has to be able to help lol ;) My girls just got home from a week at Grandmas. They spent the entire week in a chlorinated pool and their hair is like straw now. Last night, I put Aussi 3MM on it and that didn't help. Today we put cholesterol on it and let is sit for about an hour. It's still horrible. I'm not sure what else to try. I can do mayo on it tomorrow, but I don't think that's going to help. I need a really good (but affordable) deep conditioner. Any suggestions??

1. A mix of
Mayo & eggs.

A friend of my Mom's had a problem with her hair like that. I mixed up 1 cup of mayo & 2 eggs. Put it on her hair, covered it with a shower cap & let it sit for 30-45 minutes. Did the trick.

Good luck!

6. When you scrape that out, mix it with cooked rice, broccoli and shredded
cheddar cheese and bake in a casserole for 35 to 45 mins. at 350.

sorry.

couldn't resist

I have NO idea how to fix the hair problem other than time, but the mayo and eggs sounds as good as anything. Hair likes oils and protein and both those things have them.

30. also used to remove tarnish from silver and brass.
simply one needs a good reducing agent to counter the oxidation of the hair from the chlorine.

urine also works, and in earlier times it was used to soften wool. and was referred to as "lant."

2. the secret may be a shampoo to remove the chlorine build up
try the mayo combined with a foil wrap... that acts as a hot oil treatment ... and ... avoid using a hair dryer after washing followed by a conditioning rinse.

BTW - I had very long blonde hair and swam in pools without having hair problems

I think they make something like a stripping shampoo or something like that. I think it might be for conditioner build-up, though. I can't remember.

16. there is a shampoo made to remove chlorine and mineral build ups
I've only used natural products for several years ... so I don't know which manufacturer to recommend  but I would think any large drugstore should have someone knowledgeable in the cosmetic department who would know which shampoos will take care of this common problem.

at one time my blonde hair was waist length

19. I'll have to look for that.
I can go to Sally's tomorrow. I checked the drug store today and didn't see anything.

What natural brands are you using? I have a hard time finding anything. I've been on a desperate and apparently fruitles search for shampoo bars for a couple of weeks.

I'm beginning to think we just have too much hair lol. I cut my waist length hair a couple of years ago. I mean, chopped it all off! I decided to grow it back out and its a little past shoulder length now. My girls though, have long hair--waist length for one and mid-back for the other. It's pretty, but can be such a pain in the ass to deal with lol.

32. oh my
well this isn't going to help you very much ... I've only been using products made by Young Living for the past three years.

Let me suggest after you deal with the chlorine problem that you stick with the most gentle shampoos you can get remember the hair you see can't replenish its self.

Are there any health food stores near you? that's the best place to look for natural products. Most people think it's going to cost a lot more to shop there but it really doesn't.

34. Lol I won't bore you with my
health food store odyssey lol! You'd think in a county of 100k+ there would be a health food store, right? I'll do a google. Maybe I can find somewhere online. I don't think the price really matters. Normally I am very price conscious and I hate to spend too much on anything. But I'd much rather spend more money now than end up having to cut anyone's hair all off!

17. You know it's weird
We had a pool for years and got rid of it last year. None of us ever had a problem with our hair! My 9yo's hair is almost to her waist and I'm started to get a little freaked out about this.

Thx for the tip. We're going to work on it again tomorrow, but the consensus seems to be mayo lol! Btw, we almost never use hair dryers around here lol. Wet hair helps cool you down in our heat lol.

3. my daughter has really long hair and we have a pool so
when she's done swimming i wash her hair with tea tree oil shampoo to try and get the chemicals out and then i get the industrial sized bottle of conditioner and put a ton of it on her hair, i work it through with my fingers and then use a wide tooth comb to get in there as much as possible. Once the conditioner is in and worked around i have her get out of the shower and put on the bathrobe and watch tv or read for about and hour and then she rinses her hair, it's not perfect but it helps, i think you really have to give the conditioner time.

with one or two treatments. Just use a good shampoo and conditioner everytime they wash their hair and in time the hair will get back to normal.

25. Second that sound advice
Would ask if the girls were going to bed with damp hair while away and doing all that swimming. Sleeping on damp hair can really make a mess of it.

Takes time, but with shampoo made for swimmers and regular conditioning, things will get better soon. Just make sure everybody is 100% dry before bedtime.

33. I wouldn't be surprised
(Going to bed with wet hair.) Usually, we wash it every other night and conditioner every night. I let it air dry and then braid it for them to sleep in. This cuts down on the tangles. Anyway, they know what we do and I told my Mom, but I'm pretty sure those instructions were ignored. I'm pretty annoyed since now I have to deal with it lol.

We picked them up yesterday, and the hair was just WILD. My 9yo has a lot of body and her hair is about waist length. When it's short and the humidity is high, it's bushy but it has had so much weight the last couple of years we haven't really had a problem. Man, she looked like Medusa yesterday when I got there lol. It's gonna take me a while to get this hair back under control I think.

11. Second this...
Use a shampoo made to remove the chlorine (Paul Mitchell makes one) and then use a conditioner for dry/damaged hair (Vidal Sassoon is good, but there are many). Use lots, let it sit for 5-10 minutes. After that, have the girls only wash their hair every 2-3 days, and brush/comb a lot, to stimulate the natural oils the scalp produces. Good luck!

It's getting harder to find in stock at salons. Most shops have to order it. At least in my part of the country.

I can look at my hair and see obvious difference when I use it, or when I don't.

12. Here's what I used when I had long hair:
Garnier Fructis Fortifying Cream Conditioner for Frizzy, Dry, or Unmanageable Hair (I'm looking at the bottle now, that's how I remembered the name;-)). It works great, it makes your hair really soft. I think it's about $3 a bottle.

I had shoulder-length hair up until a couple of weeks ago when I got it buzzed. Sometimes I thought I was the only guy on Earth who used conditioner.

18. The Infusium line is awesome and would make nice difference, and yes
a clarifying shampoo would make a massive difference, one that gets chlorine out.

The Freida line has FANTASTIC conditioners as well once the chlorine is stripped out, and of all things, Herbal Essence shampoos and conditioners are wonderful.

Get the chlorine out with the clarifiers, and then one of the conditioners I've suggested will put them all to rights.

Do a comb through, and have the girls toss their hair upside down in the shower to comb through the conditioners.

21. Tres Pak by Tressemme or any intensive conditioner
Use a lot on their hair after washing. Get a hair brush that can be used in the shower and gently brush their hair while the conditioner is still on it (after it has been on the hair for a two or three minutes. Leave it on the hair for about five minutes, rinse with hot water, squeeze out the excess water and wrap in a towel for at least fifteen minutes. Then gently brush the hair again and allow to dry without using a hair dryer.

Do this every time they wash their hair for a couple of weeks.

I learned this trick after having my hair colored about fifteen years ago and my long hair was like brittle straw. It works really well and, brushing while conditioner is in the hair causes less breakage and hair loss when brushing before drying.

31. Ultra-Swim or Paul Mitchell Tea Tree
I was on year-round swim team from 8-23, and I have blond (occasionally greenish hair), so I've tried it all.

Step one: Ultra-Swim is the best thing for stripping that layer of chlorine out of the hair, but it is drying. You would want to wash their hair with this a couple times to get out the gunk for a fresh start.

Step two: My favorite moisturizing shampoo is Paul Mitchell Tea Tree. I think it is supposed to be for dandruff and it has an odd peppermint smell, but it really softens the hair. I still bring this on every beach vacation.

Step three: I love Aussi 3MM, but you might want to try Aussi Hair Insurance which is the spray-in conditioner that you leave-in the hair. You can keep spraying it in their hair until it feels silky again.

Step four: Let their hair air dry. Try to avoid a blow dryer for a bit.

Good Luck! :)

I googled it-"If you're afraid that chlorine will turn your hair to straw, use a chlorine-removing shampoo such as Nexxus Clarifying Shampoo after every swim."
The Ultra-Swim mentioned by others also sounds good- Walgreen's carries it? I think Sally would carry Nexxus products. Beauty salon yellow pages ads sometimes advertise that they use and sell Nexxus.

47. Hair mask for swimmers hair
1 egg
1/2 eggshell full olive oil
1/4 peeled cucumber
Mix in a blender until smooth. Massage into hair and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse as usual. Use this mask monthly during peak swimming season.

I would also recommend Potion 9 by sebastian .Its a leave in hair moisturizer not a conditioner.

I use a quarter cup and it strips most of the build-up out of it. Just have them close their eyes, pour it on, rub it in and then immediately rinse it out.
We have a pool and we do this once a week.
