The Republican was a better neighbor. |
|
How did I know he was a Republican? The copies of his Weekly Standard and National Review that were left at his door. Quiet, if a bit creepy. Certainly my landlord's Kerry signs that he had to face every time he left or returned bugged him. But, a civil tenant and neighbor.
The liberals in the unit beneath me now? How do I know they're liberal? The second night after they had moved in, there was loud talking. Started around 11 pm. I knew it was a couple, figured it was some lover's argument, what with the stress of a new place and all. But at 4 am, the near-shouting still going on, I stopped to really try to hear what all the noise was about.
"George Bush and his economic policies!"
Last night was the fourth time it happened. Even after knocking on my door, asking when an appropriate cutoff time would be (We agreed to 2 am), the nonsense didn't stop until 3:45, when I heard their phone ring (must've been another neighbor) and they finally kicked all their friends out.
I hate my neighbors for making me wanting the Republican back. Bastards.

1. I'm not suggesting you stay up all night, but why don't you join them? |
|
I wouldn't want arguments like I've had continue into the wee hours of the morning, so why don't you invite them to your apt? That way, you could have a little dontrol over when it was over and time to retire.

2. It's not always politics |
|
Just that first time. The incident before last, I was kept awake by a putrid a capella version of "Ring of Fire." I kid you not.
There's no deep political debate going on. It's just drinking, smoking and stupidity.

3. Wellll, can you have a friendly talk with them, during the day? |
|
I/m old now, but several years ago, We were members of a Streetrod car club. I slwear, we never did anything illegal or anything to hurt anyone, but, several times when we wree in motels partying, there were complaints to management about the noise we were creating, and it was by people who had to work the next day and just didn't want to hear it!
We were always understanding, and so was the motel management. Tehy would typically move them to a new room, on the back of the motel. I know you don't have that option, but most of the time, people don't really want to hurt someone else. Try to find some time during the day to just talk, and explain that you have to get up early (wether you do or not) and I bet they'll understand.
Gove it a try.

4. I appreciate your mediation |
|
but the fact is, last night was the last straw. They asked me what time was appropriate and played me for a fool. Next time it's the cops.
