Music Downloader/Techie Question
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 08:00 AM by hippiechick
Someone on one of my music forums was kind enough to send me a link to download a gig last night.

I have WinAmp, FLAC Front End, and what seems like half a dozen other plug-ins needed to run the thing, but whenever I try to 'Open with WinAmp'; I hear 2 seconds of applause and then get the error message "Error while processing frame (FLAC_FILE_DECODER_SEEKABLE STREAM_DECODER_ ERROR)".

Does anyone have any idea what this means or how I fix it ?

(I'm just too old to learn new technology, I think) :argh:
THANKS in advance !

1. Can you tell us what the extension of the file is? That would help.
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 08:10 AM by mcscajun
Is it MP3, SHN, or something else?

In case you're unfamiliar, the extension is whatever follows the filemanme and the . (Ex: Imagine.mp3)

On edit: Nevermind. I just realized you're using the FLAC. :)

4. I just reinstalled FLAC and WinAmp and still nothing.

5. Have you tried re-downloading the file?
It's rarer nowadays, but there can be an error in the download of the file that could stop playback.

I'd try that before updating multiple software packages hoping to fix one that only might be a problem.

6. The file took 14 hours to download.
I'm not really in a hurry to try it again. :hi:

7. Ooooh. Ok.
Be faster to try updating all the software, then.

Good luck!

8. sometimes in the folder that is set up when downloading
you'll receive a verification file. It would look something like this:
SteveEarle3-26-98flac.md5
If you double click on that while browsing in Windows Explorer or My computer it will tell you if all your files you downloaded are good. THat will save you the hassle of doing all this upgrading.

If the source for the files was not kind enough to include the veri files then another alternative might be to use a product like Flac Frontend and convert the files to .wav. Its easy and then you could burn (if you have a burner) the show to a CD that you could play on your home system.

Good luck, let us know.

9. FLAC is what's giving me the error message
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 08:45 AM by hippiechick
.... I loaded them all into FLAC Front End & hit 'decode' -- it ran a script with the error message "FLAC_Stream_Decoder_Unparsable_Stream"

10. hate to say it but I think your files are bad
Usually that doesn't happen. Its rare for them to be corrupted in the download process and usually someone catches that they are bad before you ever get them downloaded.

Have you checked back to the site you downloaded from? Someone may have posted a note about problems.

sorry, this sucks. nothing like tying up your computer for a day and having bad files.

11. Hey, If it's THAT simple, I'm relieved.
Much easier to accept that the file is bad than I'm just too friggin' retarded to figure this burning/ripping/downloading stuff out.

:hi: Thanks !

12. go back to your site
and see if there is a set that you can download that is smaller. Try that and see if that works for you. Will help pinpoint and you might get something you enjoy!
