Just watched "Collateral"...
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 01:04 AM by misanthrope
...and that's two hours of my life I'll regretfully never get back.

Once again, Michael Mann gives us another flick long on style and short on substance. The plot was poor, the script lackluster, the sound editing terrible, and what was up with Tom Cruise's hair? Was that supposed to make him look older?

(Spoiler in the following paragraph, though I have a hard time believing anyone can't see through a film plot this trite and formulaic)
One of the film's saving graces was getting to watch someone kill Cruise, I'm just sorry the world's most arrogant midget didn't die in a more brutal fashion.

One of the most puzzling tangents of this film is that I've heard so many people describe it as "noir," which evidently means that the public has forgotten what film noir is all about.

"L.A. Confidential" is film noir. "Collateral" is just another music video.

6. no icon
makes up for spoiling a movie. Just put *spoiler* in the title and then you don't piss other people off.

2. I loved Collateral. I thought the cinematography was interesting
Not much of a script or plot, for sure.

Definitely, not in L.A. Confidential's class. No doubt. Very few are.

One of the few "new" movies I have actually enjoyed recently.

10. Me too
It is a very good film.

Don't let the Cruise haters get to you (They apparently don't even know that gray hair signifies an older person).

7. here's what happened
you have to click-and hold to read:

click: there was a shoot out between train cars - Cruise was in one car, Foxx in the next - they both used up all their bullets, one of Foxx's hit Cruise in the right upper chest, so basically, he stopped because he was out of vullets, and then after her death-scene monologue, died. end of spoiler

:)

16. you're welcome
it's a font color=white in DU html tags; makes the text the same color as the post background.

<font color=white> </font color> except with these [] instead of these <>

9. Yes, the hair was to make Cruise look older.
What, did you think it was to make him look younger?

Since you can't even figure out what gray hair signifies, I will put zero credence in your review of the film.

Unbelievable.

14. Ending sucked, but the film was otherwise amazing
I liked Foxx's performance, quite convincing from the first hit onwards.

Though, I would much rather have seen this movie shot in it's original location, NYC, than Mr. Mann's transplant to LA. I kept thinking throughout the entire film, "Damn, this movie SOOOOO wants to be in New York!"

I enjoyed the ride, and it sure was a brutal, but efficient look at the lives of these two men who are forced to depend upon each other in a strange way.

Well, it certainly was no "Heat" but when you make a movie as brilliant as "Heat" you're bound to make a mistake now and then.

Though, I also thoroughly enjoyed "The Insider" which I consider to be the only good Russell Crowe movie.
