I am growing a vegetable garden in the Northwest. This is my first time doing it up here though I have a couple of decades of southern vegetable growing behind me.
Well, so far, the slugs have been winning. I mean big time. So, I decided to do the beer thing (bowls with beer sunk to level) as it's supposed to lure the slugs away from the tasty veggies to the even tastier beer.
On the good side, it worked fabulously last night. On the bad side, I now have 5-10 slugs per bowl. I have eight bowls out. You do the math. I have to remove the slugs.
GROSS!

7. Well, that was poor planning :) |
|
And if you're going to kill the poor things you could give them a decent beer, maybe some Newcastle

Your left over raccoon. In a casserole maybe. Could flesh it out a bit. And what luck ... they are already marinaded.

5. Have exactly the same problem this year. Slugs are eating up my store |
|
bought plants before I can put them in the ground. And I mean eat up = kill. Never saw a lily blossom this year; even the sage plants which have survived every slug attack in the past almost didn't make it this year. There are slugs EVERYWHERE. I got so mad I actually bought some chemical stuff. And they seem to survive even that.

I lost almost my whole first round of plants. Only the tomatoes survived.
Try the beer trick. Trust me, it works. But then, you will have the gross problem I now have. If I'm going to get 80 slugs a day, I'm not sure I have the stomach for this.

10. I tried beer three years ago. Worked fine - and yes, it's gross. |
|
I had about 20 cups of beer out and they were always full of slugs. Problem is I'm very much in pain right now, bending and walking is not good, so I chose the easy way. With a guilty conscience; I try to use as few chemicals as possible normally.
