Sesame oil in a marinade? |

I'm lookin' to grill some beef tonight using a Korean-style marinade. (Faux bul go gi, if you will.) Googling recipes to get ideas, I'm seeing a large number of them calling for adding a small bit sesame oil. Doesn't sesame oil have a low smoke point though? And wouldn't this cause the oil to burn, wrecking the meal?
Any DU kitchen gurus have wisdom on this matter?

Sesame oil has a very strong flavor so you don't need to use a lot. Just add a little bit, it'll be fine. Sounds yummy! :hi:

something similar as a marinade for asparagus on the grill...
I use:
1 tablespoon of Sesame oil 1 tablespoon of lite soy sauce 1 closve of crushed garlic....
it doesn't burn on me at all....

Chances are, the recipe calls for just that.
Canola has a higher smoke point, and it should be fine.

Sesame oil is really more of a flavoring, as I'm sure you understand already.
It has a low smoke point true, but smoke is good, no?
I don't think I'd use it in a marinade though. Seems like a recipe for disaster. :shrug:

Ahh Korean Beef BBQ. I use vegetable oil and just a touch of sesame oil, like only a tsp to a cup of oil.
6 green onions, minced 1 tsp. honey 1/4 tsp. crushed chili pepper 1/4 c soy sauce 1 tsp sesame oil 2 tbsp sesame seeds 1 clove garlic black pepper 1 c vegetable oil 1 tbsp sugar
mix everything up, marinade for as long as you can (up to a day) and bbq it on skewers

Skewering = small pieces of meat = greater surface area of meat = more absorption of marinade, yeah?
Today's attempt was weak cause I forgot I was out of sesame seeds, and I only let it marinate for 8 hours. I've made stir-fry beef based on Korean BBQ. 'Tis yummy cause you can put the leftover marinade in the wok and all the veggies soak it up.
I always thought Bul Go Gi typically had liberal amounts of ginger. Not true?

But no, the sesame oil won't burn or smoke, since you're using a small amount, and mixing it with other stuff. it won't make a difference at all.
