3. I am well known as a vitriolic and committed Tom Cruise hater, but...
but even I have to applaud him for going after the asshole squirting him. That would definitely piss me off, too; the squirting was utterly uncalled for, and shouldn't be accepted.

5. I agree.
Further, what is it with people's obsession about his sexual behaviour. Let it the eff alone. If he's gay and want to behave straight, so what. Light bulb, the possibility exists that he might be straight.

58. I saw a clip of it last night, and he really did act like an asshole
while calling the guy a jerk.

Jesus, Tom, even in real life you can't fucking act.

Though I stand by my claim that he had the right to be pissed off, because I believe it, I wish he had done it better. Just like all his films!

I'm surprised he didn't have his bodyguards beat this guy up.

Apparently, in his quest to become one of Hollywood's richest, most powerful actors, Tom Cruise has become a humorless jerk.

And once again...he's pure, 100% all American heterosexual. Just to clear up any confusion. :-)

14. How's his sexual orientation a legitimate area of discussion?
Please explain. I can see where his public health care agenda, advocating erradication of pyschiatry, is clearly worthy of discussion and protest, just as Jerry Falwell's public health care agenda is worth of discussion and protest.

But, how is Tom Cruise's sexual orientation any of our business? Really, StopTheMorans, I'm not being mean-spirited here. I want to know why it's necessary to single him out on the basis of rumor, innuendo, etc.

43. So, you're telling all of us . . .
I'm a reasonably well-known artist in a region of the country where I live; there is the outside chance that I could one day become "famous."

So, you're telling me, that simply by pursuing my career and leveraging the options available to me for having some skill and interest, that _I_ choose whether to become famous, thus throwing open my personal history for goddess-knows-how-long, simply because _you_ say so?

I call bullsh!t, whether it's me or someone else whose personal "truth" you believe you're entitled to.

Nor is it self evident. It happens but that it is a fact of nature is not true. It is a symptom of societal pathology. I can accept that one if that's what you're selling, but I'm not getting that from what you are saying.

96. There are plenty of celebrities...
Who are very effective at keeping the bulk of their personal lives under wraps. That involves maybe not talking about some things which you would actually not mind talking about, in return for not talking about things which you would rather keep secret.

In a situation like Cruises, you can't put yourself out there and talk about and lecture people on the greatness of your religion, the wonderful nature of your relationship, and any number of things, but then complain when people go into areas that you don't want to discuss.

If someone doesn't want to put their personal life out there as an actor or celebrity they don't have to. They can just act, be done, and leave it at that (Daniel Day Lewis is a good example of this). But if you choose to open up your life to the press and the public, you can't complain when they want to know stuff that you don't want to tell them. That's not saying you ultimately have to cave and answer them, but you definitely relinquish the right to complain about it.

95. I normally would agree with you....
However, when as a celebrity you have any number of rumors and innuendo said and printed about you regarding countless subjects and areas of your life, yet the only ones you actually sue people over are the ones where they say you are gay, it does become a legitimate source of discussion. At the very least if he's not gay, then doing that makes him a homophobe in my opinion.

And I do ultimately believe that if you become a celebrity, you cannot pick and choose which areas of your life people discuss. You can't go out there and talk about your religion or your relationships or whatever it is thatyou feel like talking about, but then get upset when people want to ask or know about other stuff as well. It goes with the territory. There are plenty of people in this world much more deserving of my sympathy and empathy than celebrities who complain about the public wanting to know too much about them.

75. It's karma for medical quackery.
from http://www.mrcranky.com/movies/whattomcruisedoesntknowmighthurtyou.html

Shields's recovery from her depression involved taking the drug Paxil. Apparently, this doesn't sit well with Tom Cruise and he felt compelled to express this in public as if he has some particular moral high ground. Tom Cruise claiming the moral high ground is like Ken Lay taking the ethical high ground. How many times has Tommy boy been divorced anyway? Look, jackass, being on Oprah doesn't absolve you of shit.

Here is what Cruise had to say about Shields: "These drugs are dangerous. I have actually helped people come off." Cruise explained, "When you talk about postpartum, you can take people today, women, and what you do is you use vitamins. There is a hormonal thing that is going on, scientifically, you can prove that. But when you talk about emotional, chemical imbalances in people, there is no science behind that. You can use vitamins to help a woman through those things."

Not only is Cruise not a doctor, I don't think he's ever played one. The foundation for this statement comes from Cruise's faith in the Church of Scientology, which opposes the use of drugs such as Paxil. Frankly, I have no opinion on the Church of Scientology. As I think all religions are basically full of shit, the fact that Scientology has been quite often accused of being a cult rather than a "true religion" isn't really a differentiation I care about.

...

The belief that vitamins can cure radiation sickness, cancer and postpartum depression is a well-established psychological condition that is known widely in the medical community as CFH, short for "completely fucked in the head." L. Ron Hubbard was CFH. Tom Cruise is also CFH. If Tom Cruise wants to give advice on what makes Katie Holmes hot or what Nicole Kidman likes for breakfast, that's fine. Write a book about it. However, on behalf of all sane people everywhere, I respectfully request that Tom Cruise and any other megastars with absolutely no knowledge or training in medicine or whatever other subject may be bothering their puny little minds, shut their mouths and keep their stupid, backwards, malformed, mystical, bullshit ideas to themselves.

The man proclaims himself as straight. It's not my place to point a finger and say "no! you're gay!"

What purpose does that serve? So we'll have another poster child? We don't need poster children. We need solid citizens -- which most of us are anyway -- regular Joes and Janes to be out and loud.

Or is it to point out some nebulous theme of hypocrisy? That doesn't do anything for us either.

I ask you, why must we make this guy gay?

to being questioned.

If he went on talk shows to discuss his medical degree and posed for photo ops with a stethescope would it be no one's business to invesigate whether he really had a degree or not?

I don't care of he's gay or not. I don't think anyone has the right to KNOW.

But I think there's a right to ask about it, especially in light of how he's publicized his love life.

81. I have to say that I thought it was rude of the
interviewer to do that. Celebrities subject themselves to being out in the open. But lately some of the media have been taking it too far. As much as I cannot stand Lindsay Lohan, she was hit in her car by some loons (media)trying to get her picture. Leo DiCaprio was cut with a beer bottle that was thrown at him by some loon who got by security. He required 12 (or so) stitches. As silly as this incident with Tom Cruise (wacko as he may be), it is just part of a bigger problem with the fascination with celebrities. Look at Princess Di for instance. I don't know what caused her wreck, a drunken high driver, or fleeing the media, but these people will stop at nothing to get a pic that sells. The guy who squirted Tom was not even supposed to be there. I personally thought he handled it fairly well. He had to be embarrassed beyond belief.

And Cruise handled it much better than I would've. I would have throttled that fucker.

That was really rude, and I actually have a bit more sympathy forr Cruise now, if only a bit.
