Need a good, lightweight mp3 player program |

Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 10:12 AM by Chichiri
Winamp, which I was sick of anyway, has pretty much ceased to function on my computer. I'm looking for an alternative -- something that loads fast, free, ad-free, spyware-free, reasonably well-featured, and just good at what it does? Can you folks recommend something(s), please? I really, really don't want to have to use Windows Media Player for more than, oh, 20 minutes.

Winamp, which I was sick of anyway, has effectively ceased to function on my computer. I need something new.

I had to uninstall reboot, and reinstall winAmp to make it work after the initial versions of winAmp 5 were really buggy and slow, then had some issues with the sound devices it chose to use on my computer.
You could always get winamp3, i think it's still slimmer and faster than 5.

I swear by it. A lot of people I know had a lot of trouble with Winamp3 actually. If you're having trouble with 5, I'd probably sugest 2.9.
I could be wrong about that though, it's been a while.

You are correct about winamp2.9 being the more stable. thats the one I was recommending if 5 was giving him troubles..
uninstall, reboot, clean registry of all traces of the program, reboot, reinstall usually does the trick.. Love windows and it's prone to break software configurations.
Happens on a mac too :) just not as often.

it's what i use. after winamp, wmp, real player, and like 5 other lesser known audio programs i settled on iTunes. it's just the best for what i want. ... and it can let you burn your CDs in mp4 or AAC, so it sounds better than mp3. for just plain simplicity, solidity, and usefulness i've found nothing to come even close.
and i'm a pc user.
go download itunes already.

7. hmm, testing it out now... |

thanks for the heads up.
as of yet i'm not really enjoying it, but perhaps that'll change with time. there's already several things that i cannot stand and several features that i already miss. and the simplicity/intuitiveness really isn't there like itunes. but i'll try it for a bit more. maybe it'll grow on me.
