Travel Question for those who have traveled to Paris
I am flying to Thailand from Los Angeles, with a 9-hour layover in Paris.

During that layover in Paris, I was wondering if there would be any problem in my leaving the airport and maybe visiting a nice restaurant or having a 4 hour tour somewhere. Do the airlines allow you to that? Or do you have to remain in the "waiting area" for your next flight? Any ideas or suggestions would sure be appreciated.

Big Bear John

1. It should be possible to leave the Airport
But you won't have much time; it takes about 45 minutes to get to town from CDG.

2. Even with a 9-hour layover? Would I need a French visa?

3. I'm assuming that you're a U.S. citizen - no.
You can enter France for up to 90 days without visa on an American passport.

6. So, if you had 9 hours to kill, what could you see and still get back to
airport?

7. Take the checks into account
To board an US-bound plane, you'll have to get past the special checks. Plan at least for an hour before boarding - better two.

Also, getting to and from the city will take you about an hour each way; I doubt that you'll have more than two maybe three, hours in Paris proper.

Which is about enough for one non-museum, non Eifel-tower sight. ;-)

8. Eat!
maybe get a cab ride into the city to take a look around, it's beautiful. but have a nice meal, you won't have time for the Louvre or anything.

9. Yes, if you don't do anything else, go to a restaurant
for a meal. The French food is the best.
