Now hear this! Song 'parodies' are the stupidest form of satire...
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 05:47 PM by Richardo
...requiring little if any talent.

If you doubt this, see the freeper examples in various threads in the lounge, like this one: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x3484955

But! This does NOT apply only to freepers. It's stupid no matter WHO does it: lefties (Franken, Rhodes), righties (Limbaugh, freepers), whatever.

DO NOT give in to the temptation to write song 'parodies'. The dignity you save may be your own.

1. Nominated!
Really though, instead of stealing someone else's song and adding your dumbassed lyrics, write a new fucking song!

10. Weird Al knows to keep satires insanely stupid
He sticks to food and tv mostly.

Song parodies with a message are generally really dumb.

And if they don't, then they've got no sense of humor.

And very rarely are they any good.

17. How about THIS??? Christian Parody Rock!!!
ApologetiX is a Pittsburgh band that specializes in Christian parodies of pop and rock songs from the 1950's through the 1990's -- everything from Elvis to the Beatles to Led Zeppelin to Nirvana to Hootie & the Blowfish. The band derives its name from the word "apologetics," which means "the defense of the Christian faith" (1 Peter 3:15). They use their music to get audiences, both young and old, interested in reading the Bible for themselves.

Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 06:34 PM by EOO
That's a bad use of the Pink Floyd cover on one of their albums.

This reminds me of that episode of South Park where Cartman makes Christian rock and changes the lyrics from "baby" to "Jesus".

24. I love Dred Zeppelin
But they're not making up lyrics to LZ songs - they just 'reimagine' LZ songs in a hilarious manner.

22. Difference between parody and satire....
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 06:43 PM by Bat Boy
Parody takes an existing form and by astutely observing and manipulating the conventions of that form creates humor.

Satire, on the other hand, deals with social conventions, societal issues and mores, and through exaggeration throws a light on them that draws the laugh.

Sorry. It's one of those weird little things that makes me nuts.

That being said, I agree totally. Song parodies suck ass.

25. I actually like song PARODIES, sort of.
But what I DO hate is TRULY the lowest form of comedy- turning some kind of bitter crap into a song (with the exception of "One More Minute." Truly classic.)

These dumbass comedians you hear on the radio and see on TV..."I hate my wife, I wish she would die." If it ain't funny when you say it, why in the hell should it be funny if you just put it into a song?

Stupid.
