My neighbors have been "moving" for three days now
I can't figure out what's going on.. These are small (1100 sqft) townhouses, I could move my entire house in about 5 hours, by myself. Yet these folks have been loading big moving trucks and 5 different SUV's for 3 days, almost non-stop.

I think their unit is some sort of Pandora's box. Their 'stuff' is apparently endless. I don't know them, but I should probably just go ask why they have so much stuff.

1. some people are pack-rats
I'm moving this weekend, and I think I can do it all in one day. Well, I've already made a few trips w/ my car, but no furniture yet.

At least I hope I can.

10. I'm a pack-rat
and I could still move all of it in a few hours.

They just carried out a terrarium in a 5 gallon water jug and a bunch of plastic kids toys. Kids are helping with the move, but the person who lives there had no kids. Odd.

12. I haven't seen any books, CD's or LP's..
Just lots of lamps and random home type stuff. Not much furniture.

3. Are they dwarves?
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 11:56 AM by expatriot
I think they are the "Time Bandits" and there is a time hole in that townhouse and they are unloading a haul after robbing the Queen of Sheba or something like that.

9. Uhh, no..
They're right outside my home-office window so I've been observing.. Their stuff is mostly normal and about half office type supplies. I've been harvesting the computer parts they've been throwing in the dumpster. :)

8. Only a month? I've been trying to talk Havocdad into sorting and tossing
junk for over 5 years. Figure we might move when he retires in abot 5 years and he still hasn't considered touching the jnk in the basement! I don't know if we will get moved in FIVE YEARS! LOL

6. You would be suprised at what you can fit into a house.
My wife and I lived in a 900 sq ft home, with an attic. It took us two loads packed into a 25ft U-Haul, along with several pickup loads, some of which had been done over the proceding month.

I'm a pack rat, and my wife is quite good at organizing stuff, so that little house was packed to the rafters, literally. Many of the folks who showed up to help us out were quite amazed at how much came out of the house.

I have a townhome and the attic is full along with the closets.

I need that clean sweep show to come by my place. :)

19. We're hopefully not going to move again
Thus with another thirty plus years of organized pack-ratting, we're going to leave quite a little suprise for our heirs:evilgrin: I'll have to leave a note to remind them that most of the "crap" is actuallly antique and valuable, that should make the job of cleaning all that stuff out more palatable.

7. Ukiah, California
It was like a place out of the twilight zone or something. Hubby and I stopped at a diner there while on a road trip. As we watched, a procession came out of the ladies room - at least six very large women one after another, like a parade. We commented upon it as it was just bizarre the way they came out in a long line. Then I had to use the rest room. It was about as large as a closet - there is no way all those women fit in there, even if they were stacked up.

I still have no idea how that happened....

15. LOL! When we were house shopping, we were shown a house
that the realtor claimed has "infinite storage space,". My partner and I started to laugh and my partner said, "So I guess the closets are constructed using non-Euclidian geometry?" and the realtor just gaped at him. Honestly, she looked at him the same way my dog does when we catch him drinking out of the toilet bowl.

16. Why care?
Three days to move a 1100 square foot town-home doesn't seem out of line to me. It took me a week to move out of my 800 square foot apartment. I'd lived there for 8 years and we had a lot of shit we'd accumulated.

Seriously, so they've got a lot of stuff. So what? I guess I don't understand what the problem is.

17. There's no "problem"
It's just odd. It's really a steady stream of stuff, and it's not just one or two people working, it's like 8.

18. Eh, I've moved a smaller apartment over two days.
Sometimes it's just easier to get a small or medium sized moving truck and do it stepwise than getting a big truck and doing it all in one go.

20. I have a few thousand miniature wargaming figurines
Before we moved last year, I spent several days packing each one individually, putting them in a well padded & oversized boxes just to make sure that not one spear snapped and not one sword bent.
