Just seen a tractor trailer flip on its side
:scared: :scared: :scared:

ok...well a couple of hours ago. I've been mezmerized by the clean up work.

I was inside my apartment, packing, and stopped to look out the window...at that exact moment, a tractor trailer hit the traffic light post a block away, ran up the curb and flipped over on its side (the block being only about 100 ft away) onto a vacant lot. My whole building - all 9 stories - shook like an earthquake hit.

Someone was yelling the driver was ok. Thank goodness no one was walking on the street at the time, or they would have been crushed to death instantly.

It happened about 2.5 hrs ago, and they've made little progress. The top of the haul was open, and filled with huge iron beams. I can only imagine that they'll be working well into the am...

ps cops and firefighters are hunky :loveya:

1. It could have been worse.
A truck flipped in my home town a couple of weeks ago. It was carrying explosives. :scared:

But to witness that would freak me out.

2. Yikes!!
That REALLY scares me! :scared:

I've witnessed worse...in 88 or 89, there was a crash at the Toronto Air Show...two planes collided. Only one pilot ejected. That was definitely the most horrifying incident I've ever seen.

5. At the time
lots of people would head out in their boats to watch the show, as most of it took place over the water...they figured one pilot didn't eject to try and avoid the boaters as the plane crashed. He was the only one killed, but that definitely could have been a disaster.

7. Oh that was very honorable of him.
I lived near Air Force Bases my whole life. My one fear is that a crash would happen right over my house. But, I also got to watch airshows from my back yard, so there was an upside.

4. I once saw a trash truck turn over while making a normal left turn
I guess it was just a bit top heavy.. The driver was fine, so I don't feel bad saying it was very funny to watch.

8. That happens not far from here.
There is a turn about 3/4 of mile from here were trucks flip on a regular basis (2-3 times a year) and you can hear them from the house when it happens. Once there was some toxic stuff to clean up but usually that isn't the case.

Once one turned over when we were driving next to it, now that freaked me out because I kept imagining how differently things would have been if we had been on the other side of that truck. :(

9. Holy moly!
That was sure a close call! It's amazing how a second, or a couple of feet, can make such a huge difference. :scared:

10. The worst one I've ever seen was
a fully loaded semi that rear-ended a large garbage truck that was stopped at a light on the outskirts of town. The semi was doing about seventy, heading into town, and didn't know the light was there, and obviously didn't see the garbage truck.

The inevitable happened-- the garbage truck driver walked away, but the semi cab was accordioned into a thickness of about five feet, and half the town turned out to watch them remove the body.

It was nasty.

11. I have only seen one accident...
I was waiting at a red light and these two cars were waiting across the street to go the other way. An Explorer was in the front and a Corvette in the back. Anyway, the Corvette decided to go before the light turned and, going about two miles per hour, kind of jammed itself up under the Explorer. Now one was hurt, the Explorer probably wasn't even scratched, but it was hilarious.
