Hey! Who else is going to be an aunt/uncle/parent soon? |
|
I saw a couple threads on this.... my sister and her husband are due THIS WEEK!
I'm all excited.... but she wants me to come to the hospital right after, and I want to see her in the hospital. But I live four hours away and I can't just take a week off if the kid is born on say a Monday...
Either way, I can't wait.

1. Buy the kid a bottle of fine wine or a cask of scotch to age until s/he's |

3. Good plan - if my BIL didn't get it first |
|
I plan to get a shirt that says "World's greatest Uncle" to wear AT THE hospital before I even see the kid. My sister (Who's tiny so she'll likely be doped up) will get a chuckle from it.

My older brother and his wife are having their first kid. It's going to be a girl. It's weird to think that my brother is going to be responsible for another human being.

oh, actually, I'm going to be a great-uncle, since it's my niece who is having a baby; and my nephew's wife is also having a baby.
Dang, I'm old.

6. Enjoy and remember these days |
|
There is a line in the movie "The Other Sister" where the father says to the mother that that time in their lives where the children are not speaking to them (young adults) could be a wonderful opportunity for them. I am in that place and trying to see the wonder in it but in the mean time still have the memories when the were little.
They are not speaking to me because mention world events instead of Michael Jackson and Paris Hilton. It "embarasses them in front of their friends".
I know it is temporary because I know I did it to my folks too I hate to admint.

I first became an aunt at 4 years of age (my nearest sibling, my brother, was 5 years older than me).
I'm only in my late 30's, but I have 9 nieces and nephews, 2 great nieces and one great nephew (ie my nieces kids).
I would have loved to be a first time aunt when I was older - most of mine were born before I was 18. The ones that weren't lived halfway across the country and I rarely got to see them. And when I did, they always gave the flippin stomach flu.
Once the great nieces/nephew came, they were a riot.
Have fun with your new little niece/nephew! :toast:
