i'm sorry fellow film geeks, I HATED amelie. i especially dislike cutesy game-playing ninnyhammer twits, so this movie rubbed every nerve i have raw. i wanted somebody to catch her in the middle of one of her cutesy little 'do-gooder' missions and have her arrested for theft, stalking and harrassment. also for impersonation of a postal official and just plain old being annoying. she likes a guy so she turns into a worthless spaz, leading him on an extended wild goose chase so she can stare at him making a fool of himself longingly from afar like some 12 year old with her first crush on the cutest boy in school. she's all upset when she thinks he's into her coworker, but hides when he comes to her fucking door. and he FUCKING GOES ALONG WITH IT! she steals property with significant meaning from her father because she thinks fucking with him is in his best interest. interfering twit needs to mind her own friggin business.
in short, didn't like it at all.

It doesn't help that I hate French cinema generally, but that film is in my top ten for Worst. Movies. Ever. Hated it. Completely.

5. i liked the movie very much |
|
i found it sweet. no violence for a change. just someone in love who does stupid things and sets small things right.
And c'mon a garden dwarf signifant property?
The doctored letter was nice too.
Something other than the usual airbags-for-tits and sucker-for-lips dolls or some willis/seagal/norris-rubbish and alike.
As a person who loves to puzzle, making someone smile or even spill tears of joy i liked this one.

6. Agreed, I thought it was an excellent film. |

You don't need darkness or death to make a good movie.

8. the gnome was significant to her father |
|
because it was a reminder of her mother, whom he ostensibly loved. what she did by stealing it was a cruel prank. and generally, i despise people who meddle in others' affairs under the guise of doing it 'for their own good' the extreme of that sort of behaviour is religious fundamentalism. i don't like it even in mild form. if she wanted to return the man's property to him, all she had to do was call him, meet him or post it to him instead of playing some game. the same with everything else she did. she did everything she did to amuse herself, not out of some motivation to do good.
as for the actress herself, i like audrey tautou in 'dirty pretty things'. the role was grating, not the actress herself.

you do know, that upon watching a film , one does choose their own level of involvement? Does the film remind you of a painful memory you once had?

yes, thank you for insinuating that i am unable to distinguish cinema from real life and that i cannot have an adverse reaction to a film without having some deep-seated childhood issue about it.

 I did nothing of the sort. You'll be just fine! And of COURSE you can have an adverse reaction! :hi: I'm not attacking you, hey? isn't it a logical question to ask if maybe the film brought up a painful memory?

18. Did you even watch the movie? |
|
The mother hated the gnome and made the father keep it in the shed. After the mother died, the father finally took it out and put it in the garden. But he became a hermit and never left home. Amelie had the gnome sent around the world to convince her father not to become a sad recluse. Which is what she would be if she hadn't gone on her little adventures of helping people. It's called fantasy.

11. keep in mind the French are traditionally whimsical |

in many of their films. I mean look at the title: Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Le (the fabulous destiny of Amelie). Your critique suggests you'd probably do better with an American-made Film.
