Why is Black Adder so excellent yet Mr Bean so dumb?
Why do quality actors get ho-hum results with excellent characters and then strike it big with mediocre characters? I'm thinking specifically about Howard whathisface who went from Dr. Johnny Fever to that boring history teacher in "Head of the Class." Or perhaps I'm thinking of Richard Mulligan who went from "Soap" to that dumb "Golden Girls" spin off where he was a doctor in Miami living next door to Joe Isuzu.

2. or Dennis Franz, whose character on Hill Street was way cooler than it was
when he played the same character on NYPD Blue.
