I had an appointment with the dentist this morning. When I arrived there and announced myself, the receptionist looked in puzzlement at her computer. After a moment, she told me that my appointment had been cancelled.
Not by me, I said. I got blank beauraucratic impossibility in reply. The computer says the appointment was cancelled. End of story. Very sorry and all that.
:grr:
This really pisses me off. Firstly, it is of no interest to me what the computer says. I didn't cancel my appointment, so there has obviously been an administrative error. The second thing that pisses me off is the arrogant assumption that, even if it is an administrative error, it is nevertheless my problem.
If I failed to turn up to an appointment, that wouldn't be their problem. No. They'd charge me for wasting the dentist's time. So that's what I'm going to do to them. If the practice manager isn't more accommodating tomorrow (she wasn't there today), I am going to invoice them for the two hours they made me late for work for no reason, which I have to make up in my free time.
What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Will keep you posted.

That really stinks. The attitude makes it so much worse.
Once, I was kept waiting by my internist for 70 minutes.
I didn't say anything, but had his bill sent to my office. There, we deducted what 70 minutes of my times would cost him, and sent him a new bill - since my fees are higher (on an hourly basis) than his.
He paid it. He had to. I'd have sued him.
Then I got a new internist.
So, go for it, kid, and do NOT back down. Accepting a free checkup/cleaning is a viable option, don't forget.
Good luck, and good for you!
