How does wrinkle cream work? Should I be using it?
I have been using Oil of Olay wrinkle cream for the last couple days. Wearing contacts instead of glasses has made me more attentive to my face as a whole. I have some wrinkles on my forehead and around my eyes. They are not big wrinkles and might be called lines instead. They are noticeable by me in the mirror but not so noticeable at 3 feet or more. I am 27.
Anyway, I tried using it. I have not noticed an improvement. In fact, it makes my skin look shinier, but not in a good way. It also makes my skin feel more leathery.
I did not personally buy it. My mother-in-law did and gave it to me. Is this really the best way to deal with lines at my age? Is it actually somewhat counter productive?

1. Oil of Olay is not the good stuff
You might want to do some reading on different creams. Some of the creams have certain very light acids that help the skin to peel more quickly and thus make for younger looking skin. Some of the creams have antioxidents in them to keep free radicals from aging your skin. In any event, whatever product you use, it will take more than 3 days to make a significant difference. Most of them say about 3 weeks are needed.

3. Oil of Olay has some not-so-good chemicals in it.
When I tried it out my whole face peeled. In my opinion - I'm 51 - nothing really helps and the more you smear yourself with some kind of cream the more your skin will need it. I must admit that to-day I'd buy ANYTHING at almost ANY price that would do something against my wrinkles but I haven't found anything. And at your age I'd certainly stick to natural things like Aloe vera and the like.

8. I tried Oil Of Olay Regenerist about a year ago.
It was terrible on my skin. I've had several friends who use it and rave about it, but it was awful for me. It left my skin raw and red, and it took weeks to heal up again.

I went back to Neutrogena, which has always worked well for me. In the morning, I use an oil-free moisturizer with SPF. At night, I use Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish cream. It suits me well.

4. Any moisturizer is fine (I'm cheap), but...
the best thing is sunscreen. I'm been wearing it on my face everyday since I was 21.

9. I already use hemp oil
That has made my skin softer and prevented it from drying out this past winter. I don't know if it helps with lines or not. I had been wearing big glasses, which hid a lot of my face.

5. The main thing at your age
to offset wrinkling later on is SPF of 15 or more...EVERYDAY.

I use expensive moisturizer, but I have 11 years on you, so I kinda need it.

7. I admit that I don't wear sunscreen often
Unless I am going to be out in the sun continuously more than an hour from spring to the beginning of fall. I guess that I have only been thinking about not getting burned instead of really protecting my skin.

10. Sunscreen on your face is vital, year-round.
I use an oil-free moisturizer with SPF in the morning, and I also use Bare Minerals makeup, which contains titanium dioxide (an ingredient in many sunscreens).

When I want color on my face in the summer, I use Neutrogena Build-A-Tan For Face self-tanning cream.

12. Sun damage
Is the number one reason that women have wrinkles in the first place.

Everyday protection from UV and other rays will keep your skin looking youthful for much longer.

I know that the over the counter stuff has gotten much better in the past several years, pick up a little jar of something and see what works best.

15. Yes, this is spot on advice.
Sun and smoking will age your face very quickly. I think the only thing that will age you faster is the Bush White House. Sadly there's no cream for that wrinkle. Or should I say crack?

6. Drink lottsa water, exersize
And stay out of the sun. Like posters above, sunscreen is your friend. And of course quit smoking if you smoke. I switch around, never pay too much, but go for more natural ingedient products. Smile a lot! Smile wrinkles are more attractive as you age (at least I think so) all oil of olay makes me break out.

11. I do think that I look better if I smile (as most people do)
I guess that I'd rather have smaile wrinkles rather than frown wrinkles.

13. Since the age of 18...
I have done the following skin regemin: Wash your face with non soap/non pore clogging cleanser (i.e. Basis Facial Cleanser), Use a non astringent toner, then use a SPF 15 moisturizer. Repeat at night, but instead, switch to a non SPF moisturizer. It may sound like a load of crap, but it works. I have only recently added eye cream to the regimin, but I'm 34 and you can only fight the againg battle for so long without adding new weapons to the arsenol. I switch off between, ROC, Neutragena, and Almay Kinetin Products. The only Oil of Olay product that I have used is their oil-free moisturizer, and it was okay... but I stopped using their products when I found out that they're a "Red" company.

16. Some antiwrinkle creams work by irritating and puffing up skin
If your skin is irritated it puffs up, making wrinkles disappear. Wear sunglasses, sunscreen and drink lots of water. Forget wrinkle cream. And most people do not need to use any soap on their faces unless they need to remove something, like slugslime or spattered chocolate flakes. There is no need to remove the natural face oils and then replace with fake stuff.
