What are the best places for meeting people of the opposite sex? |
|
We all know that bars don't work... I've taken classes and I ended up being a more educated single person... all the political events I go to are attended by the same 60 activist Dems in my county (most all of them married)... so where?

39. I think that's the best suggestion in the thread. |
|
Right now I'm busy learning to whitewater kayak but come winter maybe I will get involved in community theater... I used to do sound, lighting and stagecraft when I was in hs...

|
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 03:59 PM by Patiod
Anyplace where you're spending a lot of time with folks and have time to sit and talk and get to know them.
My one pig guy friend joined an amateur Gilbert & Sullivan group, got SO much action, and then met a member's sister at a party, and is happily married to her 10 years later. His neanderthal friends pointed out that operetta was "faggy" (their words).
He just laughed, and said "Okay, so I'm getting laid all the time because there are so few straight men in this group, and you're all going out to Sports Bars and spending the whole night with each other. And who is calling who 'faggy'??".

That does NOT mean that staying home is an effective strategy for meeting people.

6. Your gender is undeclared |
|
It does make a difference, you know.
If you are a girl, I'd suggest the YMCA.
If you are a guy, I'd suggest the local gynecologist's waiting room.

You want to be where the opposite sex is. Not both sexes. You want to meet the opposite sex; not the opposite and the same.

I don't really think guys are going to be able to meet women by going to the gynecologist's office, so, I think you are wrong.

|
He and his partner do yoga classes. He said to me: There are thirty really hot women and 2 gay guys in the class. Go to the class. The women are amazing, pretty mellow and cool, and one of them is bound to like you and vice versa.
I'm signing up this week.

12. the internet is a great place |
|
to meet people of all kinds. via the internets you can make friends, meet new people that you date or become friends with, and even find your future spouse!
(i met my husband online and we are now 5+ years married. i also have companions of the heart that i know from "online." some of them i've met IRL, others are great friends that i may meet IRL later!)

There are lefty/liberal ones, you know. I used to go to one that was so "welcoming" that it even had atheists in the congregation. Several people met and married their spouses there.

26. I'm an atheist, and I'd agree on that |
|
I remember back in my college days, I'd be one of the rare non church goers up early on a Sunday morning (I used to love reading the Sunday NY Times in the morning before everybody got up...) - but, I'd drive by the local churches on one of the main roads on the campus and I'd see a ton of attractive young women either going into or coming out of the churches there.
I'm sure there were men, too, but being 20-22 years old at the time, I didn't really notice.

31. If you're a quiet, shy, or reserved person, the internet |
|
is the best place IF you want to meet someone similar. In a public place, all the loud people would get to the quiet ones before you do.
If you want to meet someone more outgoing, though, a bar is okay, because she will let you know she may be interested.

In Houston, there is a huge dance school called SSQQ. It is a very social atmosphere and the classes are fun. Lots of people hook up at the classes, and they have had many marriages of students too.

42. I just walked by the outdoor bar at the Ball Park yesterday |
|
and noticed that there were about 20 men to every woman. Hot young guys, cold beer, reggae music, what's not to like?
I said to the SO "if I were younger, I would have hung out here instead of hanging around community theaters and competing with 10 other women for the 2 straight guys and ending up with the likes of you."
Strangely, he was not appreciative...
