1. People forget that everyone was a newbie once.
They stand for new ideas, new philosophies, new ways of seeing things, new solutions. They are friends you haven't met yet. It's easy to get lost in DU, and easy to not understand everything. So I always like it when people are receptive to newbies. There's flesh and blood humans behind our forum names. So hi newbies. :hi:

38. Also this one -
I remember being completely confused the first time I saw someone at DU put "hugh" instead of "huge" in a post. It was before I knew about FR and how often it's used over there, so I didn't get the joke at first.

48. If you really want to see something creepy, check the image at
the top of this URL. The morphing is kind of scarry.

Some good videos as well.

Here's one I did a while back myself, although it's not quite as unsettling as the 911busters morph:

63. They are too wierd. Gives me chills. Even the sites that
accuse Bush of being the antichrist do not have as scary pictures as 911busters does.

What kind of program did you use to turn his face into a monkey? I think it's pretty good.

70. I used a morphing program that I no longer have
on my computer and now can't remember the name of the damn thing! I keep hoping the CD will turn up one day in the chaos that is my study so I can reinstall it.

What the process involved was taking two photographs and marking points on each one to morph them. It was fiddly as hell to do and took days to get just right, because if I put a marking point a fraction of a millimeter too far wrong in any direction, I ended up with something resembling one of Picasso's more bizarre paintings.

Once I got a reasonable result from the morph, I transferred the picture into Photoshop to tidy up (I'm becoming very adept as using the clone stamp).

I have a different version I've had printed on some t-shirts to sell and I'm toying with the idea of selling posters on eBay, but I'm too disorganized to do anything much about it right now - I'll wait until summer's over, because when the sun shines in Britain, we have to take advantage of it!

71. Forgot to say this to you as well -
but when you look at those morphing images at the top of the 911busters page, isn't it striking just how evil those SOBs all look, especially turning into each other. They all have exactly the same look about them, which is probably why it works so well.

Rummy and Wolfowitz particularly give me the heebie-jeebies.

They just have been here longer and know the DU rules, lingo, abbreviations, and other DUers better, that's all. This thread was a chance for newer posters to ask about these things without being embarassed--I believe that's all the OP was getting at.

45. I'll chime in with my opinion.
Many on DU, yes I am one of them, are cautious around new posters due to the fact that we've had several occasions of disruptors coming in with low post counts and "pissing" all over the boards. During the election was a particulary trying time. It's a wee bit more difficult to do here that other boards and forums which allow immediate access to starting new threads and searching the site, etc. Of course we've also had cases of people with high post counts "out" themselves by suddenly unmasking as a disruptor, as well.

Please don't take it personally. It's mostly about, again, my opinion, the conflict between wanting to welcome someone with open arms and past experience that the one we're welcoming may, in fact, be up to no good.

Of course, some of us here, yes I count myself into this group as well, sometimes fall into the trap of "political snobbery," i.e., I've done more politically that you - erk! - sometimes, fortunately, my brain kicks in and I remember to remove my head from backside before I post that crap. So far so good.

Anyhoo, my .02 and -

Welcome to DU!

But ALL long-standing forums have their own history, and end up answering lots of questions for newbies and sometimes picking on them. Consider it an initiation!

In the last 9 years, I have been a member of numerous forums, and believe me, many give newbies a much worse time than you'll get here. So, just take it with a grain of salt, and enjoy your stay

It can be frustrating at first when you come here and it seems like you are being ignored. I am not making fun of new members, but I have seen that question asked before.
If you are new to DU you have to remember that there are a hell of a lot of people posting and reading and not all threads get 250 replies. Even the people who have been here since the beginning have threads drop out of sight in a few minutes.
Don't get dicouraged... it happens to everyone. It happens to me almost every thread..lol.
