NOEL GALLAGHER (OASIS) : 'LIVE 8 WILL NEVER WORK'
I applaud the musicians and organizers for trying and for caring, but the cynic in me knows he's right

---

GALLAGHER: 'LIVE 8 WILL NEVER WORK'

NOEL GALLAGHER is convinced LIVE 8 will never achieve its lofty aim of persuading politicians from the world's richest countries to eliminate debt owed by poorer nations.

The outspoken OASIS guitarist believes rock stars simply don't have the influence needed to affect the G8 decision makers - and believes all their hard work will be in vain.

He says, "Correct me if I'm wrong, but are they hoping that one of these guys from the G8 is on a quick 15 minute break at Gleneagles (in Scotland) and sees ANNIE LENNOX singing SWEET DREAMS and thinks, 'F**k me, she might have a point there, you know?'

"KEANE doing SOMEWHERE ONLY WE KNOW and some Japanese businessman going, 'Aw, look at him... we should really f**king drop that debt, you know.'

"It's not going to happen, is it?"

1. Maybe it won't work....
but perhaps it's a step in the right direction. Maybe it'll help draw more attention to the problem.

Ah, Noel....still a wanka' after all these years.

3. You have to love the refreshing honesty, LOL!
Too funny. That made me laugh out loud for real. Aww, Noel.

I don't know though...how well did Live Aid work out? This is kind of different, of course... I dunno.

a pure unapologetic asshole

too bad the band imploded and no longer has the music to back up the attitude-one can only crib from the beatles for so long

5. He is right but it doesn't mean that its not worth trying
But Noel is probably pissed of because no one including music fans actually listen to his band.

14. No, it won't magically make the world a place where social justice thrives
But it just might raise some awareness among some young people who might just go on to participate in and organize groups struggling for social justice.

I really hate this kind of "why bother it's not going to change anything" attitude (although I think it's healthy to disabuse people of pollyanna optimism too).

I agree with what Gandhi said, "Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it."

16. Yep. Live8 may be a catalyst...
...but it certainly won't be the solution. If it inspires ordinary citizens to use their weight of numbers to drown out the corporatists, it will have achieved its goal.
