Republican asshats (a rant)
As some of you know, I took a summer job with the largest environmental lobby in New York, Citizen's Campaign for the Environment. It's door-to-door canvassing, but it's a paycheck, and I absolutely *love* the young kids I work with (I'm their senior by 12+ years, mostly). Anyway, I'm canvassing in a pretty suburban-rural part of the state, and I come to the SHITTIEST house on a rather nice cul-de-sac. I knock on the door and the guy's daughter answers. Very polite, she agrees to get her dad for me, I liked her immediately (I later find out this must have been her mother's influence). However, when the father arrives, and I begin to explain how we're out in the neighborhood fighting to preserve New York's wetlands, his first words (angrily) were, "Are you in any way, shape, or form affiliated with the Democratic Party?" I assured him that we are entirely non-partisan, then proceeded to explain the importance of wetlands and how the weakening of policy at the federal level put some of New York's wetlands at risk. Of course he didn't buy it, and bitched about how bridge construction was delayed for 8 years because of environmentalists (my thought was, good, if you can't do it right, don't do it). Anyway, the crux of my rant is, here's this guy living in a run-down craphole, voting Republican against his own best interests, he'd happily sacrifice natural resources for a fucking bridge, he drinks the clean water we fight every day for, he enjoys the greenspace we fight to preserve, he benefits from our efforts to eliminate dangerous toxins from his neighborhood, yet I'll guaran-fucking-tee you, he'll be the first to bitch if he's paying for contaminated water, or if his property value plummets because the park near his house turns into a Wal-Mart, or if toxic chemicals sprayed on a neighbor's lawn make his family sick. These people astound me. Is there anyway to get through to them aside from a large brick applied forcefully to the side of their heads?

1. Nope
Which is why I support flinging bricks at the heads of Republicans.

My favorite is seeing some beat-to-shit klunker car in front of a trashy house with a * bumper sticker on it. It's not just that, but anyone making less than $500,000 a year is TOTALLY voting against their own interests, but they're completely ignorant. I'm starting to think hopeless too!

2. LOL! Thanks for the laugh!
 , but I think I'll abstain from flinging bricks at the heads of republicans, for the time being at least. Sometimes it's hard to resist, though.
