They were brilliant. The Exploited would just go around singing "Maggie You're a C*nt," but Crass went way beyond that kind of simplistic I hate Thatcher crap by, for example, editing Reagan and Thatcher's speeches into a phony phone call discussing the winnability of nuclear war, and doing it so well it fooled the press and caused a scandal. THAT'S fuckin' art, right there, and it's where punk transcends it's formative "Ha ha, I hate prog and I can't play well" ethos.

I can't cop to being terribly familiar with Crass (compared to other Brit bands). G.B.H. weren't as political as other bands of that era, but they did have some pretty clever lyrics. "Generals" was a great song.
