I just found some charges on my credit card from a company called "WLI Reservation Rewards" going back 3 months. Apparently ...I ordered some movie tickets from Fandango and I must have (stupidly) clicked on a popup ad or something and BANG....9 bucks a month without even knowing it. The people at WLI Reservation Rewards gave me some of my money back....but I'm pissed at Fandango for doing this type of shit in the first place.
I will never use Fandango.com again. This kind of shit pisses me off.
If you've ever used Fandango, I suggest checking our credit card bills for this charge. I'm usually VERY careful about these types of things...but they got me.
Fuck 'em
Edit: Spelling ...of course

3. Call your credit card company and dispute the remaining charges. |
|
You might still be able to get it ALL back.

4. Scream bloody murder at your credit card company. |
|
It's probably not the first complaint they've had about WLI Reservation Rewards. Usually in those instances, they will remove it if anyone complains. And get yourself some Mozilla/Firefox if you don't already have it. I don't even remember what a pop-up looks like anymore.

...I usually use Opera (no popups), but this must have been at my old workplace where we had to use IE.
I'll never understand why people still use IE....unless forced to

10. It's not a pop-up it's a check box that may already be checked |
|
I can't get into that section without creating a new credit card account in fact you don't see anything on the home page about it but from what I remember, when I signed up there was something about earning Fandango Bucks. Needless to say there was no fine print available and I stupidly did not investigate enough to find out that by leaving that checkmark in my account I automatically signed up for a $9/month fee.
To be honest, this complaint should go to your state's Attorney General. I know many state AGs filed a complaint about the Blockbuster "No Late Fees" hoax when it was determined that BB would charge $1.25 restocking fee if the movie was returned more than like 7 days late

9. I got the same exact thing |
|
Boy did I give them a piece of my mind. From what I could figure out it was something about a rewards program that fandango - "Do you want $20 in free movie tickets" or something bizarre like that. You click on it and somehow it signs up your credit card not warning you that oh, btw, to get those free ticket rewards you have to pay $9;/month.
WHen I called customer support the lady was like "Didn't you read the fine print?" I told her that I never agreed ANYWHERE that I wanted this service, I thought I had clicked on the list to check out the program and somehow I was signed up with even though I never consented.
This is a serious flaw with fandango that people need to be warned about (and paying that $1/ticket surcharge sucks too!)

12. Here's more research about the Fandango Scam |
|
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2004/12/22/BUG16AFEBT1.DTL&type=businessHotels.com is one of about 70 Internet heavyweights affiliated with Webloyalty, including travel service Priceline.com, movie-ticket vendor Fandango.com and shopping site Half.com.
And here's where consumers may want to sit up and take notice.
Webloyalty is able to obtain people's credit card numbers directly from many of its partners and will charge monthly fees for a service some people might not realize they've signed up for.
Once movie tickets are purchased at Fandango.com, for example, a link is presented to a special reward. That link leads to a page on Webloyalty's site promising $10 off your next Fandango purchase plus other discounts.
All you have to do is provide your e-mail address.
A Google search turns up dozens of people who say that they never meant to join Webloyalty's "reservation rewards" program.
These people subsequently discovered that the company was deducting between $7 and $9 a month from their credit cards even though they didn't think they'd signed up for the rewards plan. http://adam.rosi-kessel.org/weblog/the_man/webloyalty_aka_wli_reservations_is_a_scam.htmlWebLoyalty.com aka WLI*ReservationRewards Is A Scam I recently noticed a charge on my credit card bill for “WLI*RESERVATIONREWARDS 800-7327031” CT for $9. I had no idea what the charge was, so I called 1-800-732-7031 and finally figured it out. Below is a slightly edited letter I’ve sent to the Massachusetts Attorney General Consumer Protection office. If nothing else, I hope this weblog entry shows up on a search for this company, the phone number, or Vincent D’Agostino (the President of the company) and Mary O’Reilly (the customer service director). (My apologies to any Vincent D’Agostinos or Mary O’Reillys out there who aren’t related to this scam).
On November 2, 2004, I purchased airline tickets from the website onetravel.com.
On my most recent credit card bill, I noticed a charge for $9 for a transaction on 12/2 posted on 12/5 for WLI*RESERVATIONREWARDS 800-7327031 CT. I had no idea what the charge was, and was certain I hadn’t signed up for any “reservation rewards” program, so I did a web search for the phone number for the item. Apparently, many other people have had the same exact charge for the same item without ever having ordered it.
I called the company to dispute the charge, and they insisted that I had signed up for some kind of rewards service when I purchased airline tickets. I insisted that I had never signed up for any such service, but they claimed they had sent me three emails confirming the service, which apparently is a monthly subscription for $9 per month which gives you discounts on some products or services online.
When I complained that I was sure I had never signed up for any such service, they said that they had “millions of satisfied customers” and that the complaints were just a few. http://www.comparerewards.com/archives/000227.htmlBeware, Fandango Users! The hubby bought tickets online this morning (at Fandango.com) to see the new Hulk movie. After his purchase was complete, he got a popup window asking if he wanted to complete a survey to get $10 off his next Fandango purchase. He completed the survey and it told him congrats for joining Reservation Rewards.
Reservation Rewards' website says that it offers discounts on movie tickets, amusement park tickets, dining out, etc. I thought this sounded awfully similar to MyPoints Reservation Rewards, which I knew cost money for membership.
Guess what? It is indeed the same program...and when my husband completed that survey, he was automatically signed up with the email address and credit card he had on file at Fandango. Further, ReservationRewards.com's FAQ doesn't say anything about there being a charge for membership. A membership fee is acknowledged in the Members Terms of Service page on the site, but it doesn't specify what that cost is.
My husband couldn't log into ReservationRewards.com because he didn't have a password
