I saw a pro-life demonstration today.
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 02:03 PM by mutley_r_us
Now, of course, I respect the right of pro-lifers to demonstrate in public. However, the demonstration I saw today was very disturbing. The people had very large posters sporting pictures of aborted babies. They were very disturbing and I couldn't even look at them. This was right in the heart of downtown where commuters, tourists, families, retired folks, and people from all walks of life are out in droves. Certainly very effective as far as a demonstration is concerned, but it is not very "moral" to expose small children to things like that, IMHO.

What do DUers think? Would you rather your five year old child see a porno picture or a picture of a 21 week old aborted fetus?

2. I've seen billboards with those images
It's not about moral, it's about control. They will tell us what we can do with our bodies, we don't get to decide. They will gross everyone out, they don't care who sees the disgusting pitcures.

If they're so concerned that a child might get a glimpse of a boob on TV, why are they giving them full access to these types or horrifying images?

Gays are evil and blah blah, guess who has a gay son, that prick disowned him because of that, I am just glad my cousin Jamey had a guy like his father who is a psychologist who was very understanding of his sexuality.

7. the anti-choice crowd
showed up at the Kerry Rally in Zanesville, Oh - they were allowed to set up right in front of the security gate where everyone attending the rally had to look at their giant posters of aborted fetus'.

Contrast that to the Bush rally in Cambridge Oh, earlier in the day where we were not allowed to stand with a sign on a public street, outside the Secure area (which encompassed many blocks outside of where the actual rally was), when the whole street was populated by people waiting to see Bush's motorcade.

Anyway. Maybe a good strategy for pro-choice protesters would be huge posters of neglected, starving, and diseased children.

Seriously, help me out - am trying to think of some to display.

The one i can think of is the woman who tried a "do it yourself" job, pre-Roe, lying on the floor in a pool of blood eminating from her crotch...

Any other ideas? I would like to counter protest in the future...

13. chaulk up another hypocrisy
Naked babies are OK to show in public (unless they're on an album cover - see BTBM's thread http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=3504646&mesg_id=3504646)
but naked adults aren't.

Killing adults in a war is OK, but killing fetuses ain't.

Blech.

or morning after pill will give the Viagra prescription to the rich old geezer. Men retain control over their bodies forever, women have to forfeit control of theirs to government and church (or the hybrid of those two) as soon as they reach reproductive maturity. :(

I couldn't even look at those pictures, and I don't consider myself weak-stomached or anything like that. I could only imagine what would go through the mind of a small child on seeing those things.

It's nothing but inflammatory and designed to incite public disgust.

I wonder how they would like it if gun-control advocates were to haul out giant pics of people with their heads blown off or their guts exploded by guns. Maybe a few posters of cute little toddlers killed in the crossfire of gang warfare would be particularly effective?
