I am having a HOT FLASH!
This totally, totally sucks. This is probably my fourth in the past two years... I'm sweating and cold and my stomach is in knots. Thank god I work from home...

:nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke:

And no.... I am not looking for advice. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

1. I can't get my wireless router to work
:banghead::banghead::banghead:

They had to give me a new hard drive for my laptop, and now I can't get anything to work.

Not as bad as hot flashes, but just thought you'd be glad to know you're not suffering alone.

so, you are connected via ethernet cable to your wireless router, right? And you can't get on. Are you connected from another computer to the same router? Is that working? What operating system is your laptop?

But configuration manager thingy still can't seem to find my wireless router. (windows 2000) I'm getting a weak signal from the neighbors, but not from the next room. :argh:

Glad your hot flash is over. That's one thing I am not looking forward to.

53. It sounds like you need to reinitialize your modem
DSL? Cable? Call your service provider and have them talk you through it. (You will probably get the Philippines.) My guys (in the Philippines, of course) helped me through it after I borrowed my cable to help out a friend with her problem. Came back, plugged in cable and couldn't get my wireless internet connection. It's a simple operation, but I couldn't begin to tell you what to do on a PC.

for two years now and I haven't skipped a single period yet!

I always thought the whole hot flash thingy was an indication that you were on the downside of that Menopause Hill -- was I wrong.

The Doc said I could go on for years like this before meno hits. :scared: Someone hold me!!!!

Hang in there --

22. the "dreaded" perimenopause
and I say that somewhat facetiously, offers all kinds of interesting stuff from the menu. I have had some hot flashes ( they are infrequent)and interesting hormonal swings. Not too bad. Kind of like being a teenager again in some respects. Although it did seem that the periods were pretty damn frequent at times!

I think it's different for every woman. One of my friends reached her early 40s and bam, that was it. No period, no weirdness, nothing.

11. Oh man... if you count the night sweats...
I guess I've been perimenopausal for a while now... I think I hate this out of control feeling worse than anything I can imagine. Happened to me once in the middle of a meeting. Actually, it was five years ago, and it was the first time it ever happened (wtf is up with that anyway, I was only 37)... I thought I was going to die. Had no idea what was wrong with me. I was in the middle of a presentation and I had to excuse myself.

It's over now... this was a short one. :)

there's about 4 of us in various stages of this and one woman had a major attack in a meeting. I then bought the fans as a joke, but they have come in handy.

I started very young too but it seems to just go on and on and on :-(

I had some after I had my kid... and I remember saying to my doc that I thought they were hot flashes... and she said I was too young... 38-39... but I think that's what they were. My mom said she didn't remember having any. It's odd because you expect that AFTER? menopause... not in the stage before... or maybe it's all one long process....

16. I have had that appetite thing....
My blood suger these days seems just completely whacked out. Since the hypothalamus is so effected by the hormone shift and it regulates appetite and body temperature, it makes sense for it to be a little off.

I have had episodes where I was fine one minute and the next felt as if I was about to pass out from lack of food -- I get the shakes and start sweating. I've become a little paranoid about making sure I have access to food at all times.

42. Interesting.
I have not done the research I should because I guess I just view this as natural and simply deal with it. Normally I would know every thing published about it but I just have not looked.

So, that would explain a lot. The weight gain baffles me since I eat better than ever and I get enough exercise and should be losing rather than gaining.

Also the temperature. I work outside and this year for some reason I just can't take the heat. It is kicking my ass and we are not really hot yet, just low 90's.

48. I was having such weird, varied symptoms...
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 05:40 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
that I never had heard about being associated with peri/meno so I did a lot of research into the whole thing. I was very, very surprised at just how many body systems can be affected by the loss of estrogen -- the hypothalamus being the part of the brain hit hardest by the chemical changes. That part of the brain runs just about every autonamic body system there is. The whole appetite/weight gain thing is directly related to the hypothalamus -- peri/meno women often have weight gain unrelated to how much they eat/how much they exericise. I have a friend who is peri and works out like a demon/eats sensibly and has gained some 25 pounds.

I too have become a wilting flower when faced with heat. And I live in San Francisco -- home of the balmiest weather! I have always been the person who was wearing a sweater and turning up the heat, and I never sweated -- ever, but these days it hits 67 and I'm sweating like a pig.

You should check the estrogen/hypothalamus/seratonin link out -- I find it all fascinating and it's also helped me cope with the craziness my body has been going through.

I will do that. I play in a City Band outside in the summers and everyone will be saying how hot it is and they have these little perspiration beads on their upper lips and I am soaked, my hair plastered to my head and my glasses sliding off, it is so embarrassing! Maybe there is some help for those pesky little things.

Yes, almost 20 pounds in a year and 20 in the few years leading up to this one. It is killing me but at least the acne seems to be abating!

62. You have my sympathy.
I ran into menopause like a brick wall when I was 42. I seriously thought I might be developing an anxiety disorder (other stuff happening in life) and my periods had been irregular for a long time, in fact, they always were. TMI. It felt, for me, like it might be a panic attack: an overwhelming, sweeping feeling of dread, nausea, then profuse sweating. Then all that would abate and I was chilled. My night clothes smelled like I'd spent the night in a den of ferrets. I begged co-workers to let me have their bus duty on winter mornings. I went on estrogen for a while, and it helped a lot. Then I ran out of meds and decided try to do without, you know, maybe the worst was over.

I was wrong. Hot flashes day and night, maybe a reprieve in the afternoon. Hot flashes every 1 1/2 hour or so all night, and it took about 45 minutes to wake up, have that panicky feeling, heat up, sweat, get up and walk around and go outside or anyplace to get comfortable, then cool down, then get cold as the sweat dried, then fall back asleep. Repeat, repeat.

I know there are serious risks to consider, taking hormones. But, for myself, I'll take the risk. Sleep-deprivation was killing me anyway.

I hope we can find a better way. For now, for me, it's drugs, baby.

54. I went through premature menapause from age 36 to 39.
The hot flashes are like you will sponteaously combust! They are so debilitating and the night sweats.

Of course my doctor told me I couldn't be, no way, I paid hundreds of dollars for batteries of tests, at the end of which she gave be 10 hormone pills and said take them for the next 10 days. I did, I had a period and it was my last!

Oh, btw, I stopped going to that kooky doctor. :hi:

It will eventually pass and life on the other side is better! :-)

57. Hell, I don't remember
She expected them to kick my system back to normal. All they did was cause me to have my last period (after months of not having one).

I just wanted something to make the feeling that I was going to spontaneously combust go away.

My flashes were so bad, I could be sitting talking to co-workers and then I would turn pale white and be burning up inside. The co-workers would go running for water, sure that I was dying.

Thank god that's over with. I hope your's passes. Have you increased your soy intake?
