Sirius had a CT scan. Surgery scheduled for Monday AM.
Here is the radiology report from the CT scan:

Pulmonary nodules consistent with the reported metastatic lung disease, and also some anesthesia related atelectasis.
At the right lateral aspect of the bladder there is a 2cm mass which has moderate heterogeneous enhancement. The mass may be adhered to the bladder and is also contacting the abdominal wall and is presumably what was originally aspirated. It certainly looks associated with the bladder but may also be adhered to the abdominal wall. It has a tubular connection that runs cranially towards the trigone and the right ureter.

The lung cancer has been almost eradicated with the 15 weeks of Adriamycin chemotherapy. They had thought that the primary tumor was on the prostate. Now they think it is outside the bladder wall in a position that facilitates surgical removal.

I hate to put him through this, but the specialty clinic vets are very optimistic about his chances for complete recovery. They all love sweet Sirius too, now that they know him. He is a favorite of the vet staff.

Sweet Sirius

2. Sweet Sirius
he will understand. This actually sounds pretty positive. I will send my best thoughts his way and yours.

We had really good luck with our Lab at the Vet School, they did a wonderful job and she lived for 4 more years to the usual age for a Lab.
It was a different problem but I thought the story might help.

Good luck.

6. Oh, that's encouraging
I've been wondering what Sirius was up to lately and how he was doing. I'm glad the vet thinks he'll be okay - he's got a very endearing face. How's he holding up with the chemo?

9. The last chemo was about 5 weeks ago. He tolerated it well.
At some point, after the surgery, they might want to try another chemotheraputic agent against any remaining cancer.

7. Good luck to Sirius and to you
since the time of your first post about Sirius's health issues, my ailing pup (had had a stroke - but was managing well) - was diagnosed with an agressive form of lymphoma (sp) - she was supposed to have 4 to 6 months... we had about 4 weeks.

Cherish every moment. Those memories are important to get through the very, very lonely stage after the end. Sounds like Sirius's story, however, will have a happier ending.

13. thanks - but I like to think
that the collective wisdom that can be found at DU - pushes each of us further (per we grow from the wisdom of those around us and grow even "brighter" as a result.)

Thanks for your thoughts per our late Hope. She is greatly missed - however due to her stroke (she was almost normal - but had a few neurological issues - as a result) 18 months earlier - there was a wakeup call to not take forgranted her wonderful company. As you have experienced - I spent more time in stinky hugs while reading books - and more time taking intentional time together - that I have more warm memories to hold onto - and she, I hope, had more warm moments and comfort (and thus security) as she grew more ill. I am sure this is the same with Sirius.

14. He looks like a sweetheart.
My dog was just at the vet (being snipped and microchipped). I cried, because he was so frustrated with the cone collar.

I can only imagine how hard this must be for you, but Sirius is very lucky to have someone as caring and responsible as you are.
