Oprah, we need to talk.
http://www.thekcrachannel.com/entertainment/4645541/detail.html

It wasn't being racist, the store was simply closed.

Winfrey showed up at Hermes after-hours, wanting to buy a gift. Employees refused to re-open just for her.

"Hermes regrets not having been able to welcome Madame Oprah Winfrey and the people accompanying her to give them all the attention and service that Hermes is committed to giving each of its clients in the world," the store said in a statement Tuesday.

The store added that it was closed for a public relations event and couldn't re-open, and expressed "its sincere regrets for any misunderstanding that these circumstances could have caused."

But Winfrey sees it as a racial incident. A spokeswoman is calling it a "Crash" moment.

1. Blah.
Some stars need to learn that despite their fame, they are still just people and are subject to the same rules and regulations as everyone else.

They told her the deal--they were preparing for a special event--Hello?!

Fuck her, just fuck her...

4. I know that I am out of touch with Ms. Winfrey and the American public's
love affair with her but she has always grated on my nerves like nobody's business. I understand that she's an icon for millions, but forget it, I can't sit and watch here hyperactive know-it-all self for more than a couple minutes without wanting to punch the t.v. set.

I cannot watch any of those talk show people. I loved Carson, I still love Letterman. But these 'other' type shows just are not for me.

Having got that out in the open, what I want to say is that Oprah needs to stop believing all the hype about herself. Yes, she's successful and rich. But unless she can walk across an olympic sized swimming pool without getting anything above the soles of her shoes wet, she needs to get over herself. Some of us are not impressed.

6. Great points--I enjoyed reading your post...
She contradicts herself ALL THE TIME!

I've heard her go on and on about how 'disturbed' she is with the public obsession with celebrity, yet she feeds into it with her show and the way she fawns all over her 'celebrity friends.'

She is a walking, talking contradiction, a hypocrite, completely out of touch with the demographic that worships her, an insecure woman that is buying into her own press...

Moving on...

5. Maybe Oprah has more information than we do?
I'm sure Oprah has a bit more information about whether a store should/could have opened for her--and what was said to her. She knows some plenty rich people, who have probably gotten into Hermes on Christmas Eve at midnight.

She really doesn't strike me as a person who cries "racism" just for kicks. She really doesn't.

Stores close/reopen *all* the time so celebrities/rich people can shop there. Restaurants are opened after hours, sections are shut down, etc. Celebrities don't want to be stared at/mobbed/started in about a million conversations every five seconds...and the store knows celebs have the bucks.
