Not good...
It's been really rainy here for the last few weeks. For the last couple of weeks, we've noticed that there seems to be a puddle of standing water on the east side of our house. I kept on watching it expecting it to absorb into the ground and dry up, but instead it kept growing and getting bigger. Finally we realized...there's a busted pipe under the ground there!! Anyway, I called out a plumber today to look at it, and he pinpointed where the leak is, but the pipe is under this huge root from a tree that is growing right there. Further, the tree is already splitting down the middle so cutting down through the root could potentially destablize the tree (this a big fucking tree we're talking about), and you wouldn't want it falling. So, I guess I get to call out a tree guy and probably pay through the nose to have this tree cut down, so that I can pay through the nose to have the pipe repaired.
Argh!!

1. I'm sorry, sounds like a bad situation.
Make sure you call a few different tree removal companies, with things like that the price can vary by as much as 3x. I was quoted between $850 and $2200 for the same tree

2. I just hate to kill the tree,...
but it's been in trouble for a couple of years the way it's spliting down the middle. That might even be what caused the pipe to bust in the first place.

3. I understand that
I had to take down the tree at my house because it had been infested with carpenter ants and the bottom of the tree was pretty much hollow. We did plant a dogwood in the front yard after we had the tree in the back cut down.
