There are 3 little boys missing from Camden, NJ
They are not white, nor blonde, and clearly not female. And they are getting coverage on CNN.

Just thought I'd point that out. :hi:

I pray for them and their families. Hopefully they just ran off on some adventure and will be back

Hopefully their coverage will help authorities to find them.

6. Are you implying that this story getting one day of press
compares to the circus over Jon Benet? or the young woman in Aruba?

I hope that's not what this thread is implying, cause that's just stupid.

Just the idea that this one story somehow negates the fact that Jon Benet an Aruba woman's stories are evidence of a trend... a trend that so far has not changed or showed any signs of changing.

That's what's stupid... not you or anyone saying it.

Jeez... I thought that was pretty clear.

24. No worries
But when you throw around words like stupid directly following someone's post, people are apt to think it's directed at them, if you get my drift. ;-)

14. Am I the only one that thinks media coverage of a missing child,
ANY missing child, regardless of his/her race or background, may actually be a decent thing in the long run?

But I DO miss Baby Jessica. When will one of these brats have the goddamn decency to fall down a well?!

okay, but weren't you riveted to the TV when they brought
those coal miners out? I was.

I think sometimes it is the sensational nature of a crime, rather than the victim. As I said upthread, I had a friend murdered in the Bahamas. She was white, blond-ish, beautiful, a school teacher and she was missing for 30 days before they found her body. I don't think it got the press coverage Natilee Holloway is getting.

27. No. I didn't have a TV when that was happening.
I just want someone to fall down a well!! Is that so wrong?

Sorry, just trying to lighten up the conversation.

18. No. Of course it's a decent thing that missing children are given coverage
However it's stupid to ignore the fact that our media shows much more willingness to give widespread and thorough coverage when the subject is of a certain gender and appearance.

29. I really do see your point.
And you are correct. It just seems that, around here anyway, that any missing child story is somehow construed as some Rove-ian MSM smokescreen. I really wish people would stop giving him so much credit- the media has always been a sucker for human interest stories over substance, especially in terms of kids.

30. Oh I certainly agree with that.
Rove can do a lot, but he can't take over news directors' jobs completely. You're absolutely right that child-related human interest stories are huge draws. I was focused more on the racial / appearance angle.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I don't think Operation Mockingbird is still active, though. But that's not Rove's baby.

19. I think sometimes the sensational nature of a particular crime
warrants a lot of press. Jon Benet, Elizabeth Smart were in their own houses, that scares people. Natliee Holloway was on vacation in a place that is renowned for safety. I think it pushes the buttons in a big way with people.

We heard about Precious Doe for a long time, IIRC. I don't mean to say that the coverage of crimes committed against minorities is the same, but I had a friend murdered in the Bahamas 8 years ago and although it was a big story here, I am willing to bet you didn't hear a thing about it. She was white, beautiful, a teacher, and she went missing and her body was found near what is now the Atlantis Resort.

21. That is what I am saying.
Having a child taken from their own yard is sensational. I certainly don't think most people think Jon Benet or Elizabeth Smart is more 'worthy', but I have to tell those crimes scared the crap out of me.

I won't let my daughter play alone in the front yard, and we live in a pretty safe community. You just never know.

Thanks for your condolences. It was pretty awful.

10. Oh they'll get media today... maybe a few days...
and it'll be mentioned when they're found... and when their abductor is caught.

However, if history is any guide, it will be NOTHING like the circus around the young woman in Aruba... NOTHING like the circus around Jon Benet.

My wife and I went to Mammoth Cave during a Tennessee heatwave a few summers ago. That was nice...it's cooler underground than it could ever be in front of my air conditioner.

33. BatBoy and I went to Merrimec Caverns
It was practically freezing there during a heatwave at the end of August.

On the other hand, the air conditioning where I work sucks ass, and it doesn't really matter anyway, since we have to keep opening up the giant garage door to load and unload the UPS trucks. :-(

It's HOT! :grr:

and I'm happy that they are getting MSM coverage

and I'm certain that it's not a coincidence that those poor little boys are getting coverage on a day that Dems are on the attack against Rove and the Administration and not getting coverage for that :sarcasm:

17. I understand your implications here Dolo
But to some here, I just think that it should be left at the fact that right now 3 little kids are missing and THAT should be what is important.
Please don't get "political" on this subject. Talking about that stuff here is like preaching to the choir.

I'm just trying to call attention to the fact that not EVERY missing person who gets any airtime is in fact white, blonde and female as I see asserted time and time again here. Hyperbole grows tiresome. ;)

36. sad that it takes 3 at a time to change the status quo...
that is what makes this sensational, not that they may have been taken from their home, IMO. I bet most people are thinking these kids just wandered off and fell in the river. There was no witness to say someone grabbed them, so...no massive search for the pedophile. no car to look for and follow with a chopper, no sketches to put up, no speculation about the character of the neighbors, it's too 'clean' right now for the masses to get invested in the story.

that's why no one is paying attention, imo.
