11. Wow!! I am glad,though, that Matt
just didn't let it slide. Matt had some very valid points and he told Tom, but like he said, they could talk in circles all day. Tom thinks it is his way and his way only!

15. Psychiatry is 'pseudo-science'? What a total POS.
If he actually studied what he says he studied, he would understand that anti-depressant medications replace a missing component in one's brain. You can't 'will' yourself out of chronic depression.

and a "P-S" in "Psychiatry" and in "Psuedo" so there you go!

The idiot probably read one pamphlet printed up by Scientolgy Press about the subjec, and therefore considers himself an expert on the subject.

he's the last one to give advice..

He has the "short-man" syndrome..He's insecure, and has to be over-the-top, and call attention to himself .

Acting is a narcissistic occupation anyway, and he's O.D.ed on it..

He needs to go away for a while.. I am bored with him..(never liked him much to start with)

26. Well he IS an expert on the "history of psychiatry" !
We mortals would surely see how correct he is if we just understood the "history of psychiatry" as well as he does. :sarcasm:

In fact if we understood it as well as he claims to we would readily confuse psychology with psychiatry as he does.

14. idiot, this is the problem when we make stars heroes
he probably has a very low IQ or very limited exposure.

Scientology has always been against psychiatry/psychology. It attracts a lot of nuts who think this will heal them where more conventional means did not.

Dumb, uneducated idiot. (I love where he says over and over "you don't know the history of psychology". What the hell does the history of psychology have to do with anything? And if he knows, why doesn't he tell us? I have a cousin who has very limited intellect. He read a book (historical fiction) about Richard the Lionhearted or someone. Now (and for years) every subject of discussion ends with "well, this is all covered in such and such a book, its all there, the answers are all there." Ask what the answer is? He says, read the book. Like a religion for atheists dummies.

Idiots.

21. It just doesn't add up
He seems like a perfectly normal guy till he gets to this subject (Scientology) and then he's just a lunatic. He's right and everyone else is wrong. I don't think much of psychiatry either, but trying to deal with severe depression without meds and counseling is dangerous.

He obviously doesn't have a clue about postpartum depression. If they get married and have children and Katie has PPD, she's in deep shit.

30. He says he's done the research...so we must take his comments as fact!
Cruise: No, you see. Here's the problem. You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do.

<snip>

Cruise: But what happens, the antidepressant, all it does is mask the problem. There's ways, vitamins and through exercise and various things... I'm not saying that that isn't real. That's not what I'm saying. That's an alteration of what I'm saying. I'm saying that drugs aren't the answer, these drugs are very dangerous. They're mind-altering, antipsychotic drugs. And there are ways of doing it without that so that we don't end up in a brave new world. The thing that I'm saying about Brooke is that there's misinformation, okay. And she doesn't understand the history of psychiatry. She doesn't understand in the same way that you don't understand it, Matt.

<snip>

Cruise: Matt. Matt, Matt, you don't even — you're glib. You don't even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, okay? That's what I've done. Then you go and you say where's the medical test? Where's the blood test that says how much Ritalin you're supposed to get?

Lauer: It's very impressive to listen to you. Because clearly, you've done the homework. And you know the subject.

Cruise: And you should. And you should do that also. Because just knowing people who are on Ritalin isn't enough. You should be a little bit more responsible in knowing really —

<snip>

Cruise: It's very — and you know what? You're here on the "Today" show.

Lauer: Right.

Cruise: And to talk about it in a way of saying, "Well, isn't it okay," and being reasonable about it when you don't know and I do, I think that you should be a little bit more responsible in knowing what it is.
