Does anyone remember that British comic, almost like a Benny Hill
They used to show him here in the States. He would sit out on the stage and always have a drink. I think he also smoked. If i remember correctly, he had a finger missing. I have been trying to remember his name for a while and can't remember him.
They showed him here in the early 80s. His show was almost like The Benny Hill show. Anyone?

1. Dave Allen
but nothing like Benny Hill. That's like saying FDR is a bit like Dubya. Dave Allen was a comic genius. He died a few months ago, unfortunately.

And he was Irish.

5. That's him..thanks
I think I thought of him "like Benny Hill" because they ran them right after each other. I think I was about 16 back then. I always wondered what happened to his show. I thought he was great, but didn't see him too much.
Thanks. maybe I can find some of his stuff out there.

Funniest guy on the planet while he was alive; I used to watch his show on WVIZ-25 in Clevo when I was a kid..

7. Yeah, thats when I used to watch him
I wasn't quite a "kid". I was about 16, so a lot of that time is a haze. Yeah, he was on 25 right after or before Benny Hill, hence my Benny Hill comparison.

11. Well
I remember it at that age because I was 16 when my mother lost her twins. I remember watching that show at home while waiting for word from them in the hospital. So that was 1980 or so.

6. Dave Allen
The show was Dave Allen At Large. He was an Irish comic and he'd sit there and drink and smoke and tell dumb jokes and introduce dumb skits and he was brilliant. And yes he was missing a finger.

I loved him.

13. Dave Allen had a great riff on religious humor
His take went something like this: working with the presupposition that God created the heavens and the earth, Adam and Eve, and everything else, then God is also ultimately responsible for all of the ways we express ourselves - which means God created gags.

So if you don't like a certain piece of religious humor because you consider it sacreligious, don't blame Dave Allen - blame God!
