Who is the greatest liberal TV character (NO PUNDITS)?
I would say Jack McCoy from the original Law & Order. He's well spoken, fights like hell to protect civil liberties, used to be an anti-establishment hippie, and even though he could be making millions as a defense attorney he would rather make the salary of a prosecutor so he can protect society.

Who is your pick?

He's kind, considerate, good to children. And of course, loved animals; look how he coddled Mr. Ed.

13. I'll see your Hawkeye and raise you one Meathead
Michael Stivic on All in the Family.

I prefer the Hawkeye character over Michael, but Meathead was a good liberal ready for a good fight.

7. Julia Sugarbaker from Designing Women
Only on in reruns now. But that series was created by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and Harry Thomason, very good friends of the Clintons and had a very liberal bent. In fact, Charlene, one of the characters used to work in Bill Clinton's office when he was AG (on the show).

27. Yup
My choice as well. Murphy Brown has the distinction of having a puke vice president condemn her for a fictional choice she made, and to whom she devoted a very spicy retort after it.

17. I contend that Sheriff Andy Taylor was, if not a liberal, a good Democrat.
Think about it. He never wore a gun unless absolutely necessary, instead relying on his wits to capture criminals. When a stranger came to town, he was always the one trying to cool the ardor of the suspicious locals.

There weren't black people in Mayberry but, if there had been, I can't imagine Sheriff Taylor trying to run them out of town. If anything, he'd probably invite them over to his house.

He damn sure wasn't a conservative.
