Jesus, it starts young these days! |
|
My 9 year old daughter asked me today how to deal with the boys who say she has a bubble butt! She's freaking 9yo!! For one! For another, she's 4'3 and weighs a whopping 48 lbs. She's really skinny. She has no butt! I don't get this. My 8yo dd is the same height and about 8 lbs more. She has the bubble butt lol. She has this little tiny waist and hips. Omg, we're gonna be beating boys off her with a stick! But the other one says they are picking on her!? I don't get it. Sad thing is, boys don't any nicer. Sorry to all y'all mice ones around here lol, but stats aren't with you. ;)

3. I told her that ,but she isn't at an age where she cares about more |
|
than her "friends" are picking on her. I feel awful for her. I remember these years as bad too. :(

2. At that age I beat up a few boys for their smart mouths |
|
though I am not advocating violence, teach her a few insults to put the little freaks in their place. As a dear friend once used to say, ( he was quoting an African teacher he'd met in his travels) "Children all over the world are mean to each other in exactly the same ways!"

5. I know. It's no fun to be a kid anymore! |
|
But I know you'll teach her that people shouldn't make her miserable and she can make them more miserable if they insist on it:)
Just like I toughened my daughter and neices up. It's rough out there!
 for her!

Kids begin early with the "fat" taunts. I got it from age 6 on up and it traumatized me. I've read many accounts and kids as young as 7 are now worrying about dieting...it's scary.
It's good that your daughter is comfortable enough to talk to you. Reassure her that she is a healthy weight and has a perfectly normal shape. Tell her that every person has a different shape and that the women in fashion mags, on tv, etc. are often underweight, airbrushed, overly made up, etc. They are images the media makes women think they should want to look like, but they are unrealistic. Remind her that young women like one of the Olsen twins and countless others have nearly died through excessive dieting.
Help her see average women as ideal, not waiflike supermodels and actresses. Show her a picture of J.Lo if needed....she has a "bubblebut" and is famous for it.

8. Or even that there's no such thing as a "normal" weight. |
