He's a tool of some sort. I had no idea he was so ignorant. Let me rephrase that. I had no idea so many people were that ignorant. But, to be fair, it's no more far-fetched than a lot of stuff people believe. Doesn't make it sound any smarter, though...
(mispelled words make me crazy)

3. He has no businss dissing psychiatry. |
|
"He's read about it." Bah. So have I. That doesn't give me the right to criticize people who need to take medication to save their lives and sanity.

8. The whole time he's saying that there is no such thing |
|
as a chemical balance, I'm thinking "HE sure looks like he has a chemical imbalance!"
The guy is actually delusional. Would he tell a diabetic not to take their insulin? Just take a frikkin vitamin instead.
Ass.

6. I don't know why Tom Cruise's opinion on psychology matters |
|
I've never understood why people take the opinions of celebrities more seriously than they do experts in whatever field is under discussion. Just because he's a movie star who most people recognize does NOT make him a reliable source for information on anything except perhaps certain aspects of the entertainment industry. The endless discussion here and elsewhere on the subject does nothing but give more legitimacy to his whacked out views. In the end, I doubt very much if anyone is going to say, "gee, I guess I'll stop taking my meds and seeing my shrink because Tom Cruise says I should be taking vitamins instead."

How do people make that connection? It's like the Holiday Inn Express commercials in which the person who has all the answers (even though they're wrong) seems so brilliant because they stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. "Are you a doctor?" "No, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night."
I don't know - I guess I sometimes forget that the average intelligence is not really that great.

12. Yeah, the whole anti-psychiatry thing bothers me |
|
a helluva a lot worse than his choice of religion/cult, because he's advocating a public health agenda that could have far-reaching (and fatal) repercussions for all of us. Until he can trot out some clinical trials conducted by credible sources showing that Scientology "cures" mental illness, his "war on psychiatry" is just more negative campaigning against Scientology's competitors, in my view.
