:wow:

opened with All Along The Watchtower and it got even BETTER from there! auditorium sat about 200. we were 20 feet away from him.

others included:

Here Comes The Sun
Woodstock
Motherless Child (20 minutes worth) :wow:
ACAPELLA version of Gilmore's "On The Turning Away" that brought the house to TEARS!

fucking amazing. have NEVER seen a performer give 1000% like he did tonight. he left the stage EXHAUSTED.

1. I love Richie Havens...
He was here about a month ago, but we had other plans. :(. We're NOT missing Emmylou Harris next week, though.

2. Freebird?
:7

On The Turning Away acapella? Wow. That just sounds kick ass. I saw Floyd do that song in '94 and that was emotional enough.

11. I'm not into 60s stuff, so I didn't know that fact either

My favorite '60s bands were the Velvet Underground and the Stones. I also love garage music from that time period. But Woodstock and hippy culture? I'm square. :smoke:

8. Wow - that blows me away!
When I hear "Richie Havens" I think "60s nerd music ala the Nelsens and David Cassidy and etc."

Either he's changed, or else I have no idea who Richie Havens actually is.

Sonofabitch.

I love "on the turning away" - a capella could be incredibly powerful!

10. He was/is a folkie
Opened Woodstock... great acoustic guitar player. Nowhere near nerd territory. :-)

Always has been great at interpreting others' songs, even did an album of Dylan and Beatles covers.

14. Well, then, I've really cheated myself
somewhere along the line I lumped him into the nerds, so never bothered with him.

I just picture a guy in a blue liesure suit, or some kind of blue outfit, playing music that some producer wrote for him because he was cute, something that safe girls in skirts and sweaters at the Christian Armory concert can giggle and scream over.

Is there a Richie Valens, or something like that? Could I have mixed these two performers into one my whole life?

16. And I see from undisclosedlocation that there IS a Richie Valens
So I bet in my whole life I've never differentiated between the two.

This is why people should not be allowed to have names that are similar in any way.

I'm so fucking awful with names.

20. Do yourself a favor and listen to an old Woodstock "album"
oh Lord, I feel ancient...
I guess CD is the right word. Nevertheless...this is the man who seemed to embody the spirit of Woodstock. When you hear him sing about "Freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom..." the words just go to the marrow.

13. I think you may be thinking of Ritchie Valens from the 50s
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 10:52 PM by undisclosedlocation
Forget whether it was he, Buddy Holly or the Big Bopper for whom Waylon Jennings gave up his seat on the plane. Some day rockers will learn to stay off of fucking airplanes.
