I like DU because
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 12:55 AM by micrometer_50
A DUer 2000 miles from my home took the time to photograph
two names for me.

Without so much as a 'please' from me, she did this for me,
a DUer from the desert.

Thank you Bertha.
:hi:

2. I can see how that would touch you.
I rubbed off a name for my step-father, who was there when his best friend was killed.

It meant a lot to him.

We got a new car from my Dad, which my Dad and I drove out from California. We separated the cats by buying a new door to the basement, cutting a hole in it and putting an electronic cat-door in it, which reduced the stress on Neko (a five-year-old female being harassed by two two-year-old males) and cut way down on the peeing all over the place. Also started my internship, and I'm doing quite well. My ankle is feeling stronger, and in less pain (after breaking it in late February). Got bills paid. Almost done with school. And, on top of it all, my g/f's getting closer to her transfer to California, which will be great.

So things are going really, really well, now.

Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 12:42 AM by auntAgonist
and secondly, DUers are wonderful. I'm guessing this is from the Vietnam Memorial Wall? (never been there) And I'm guessing these names have special meaning to you. Forgive me if I've guessed wrong.
And Bertha is one of the BEST :)

sincerely

4. The Wall is an amazing thing
Everyone owes it to themselves to go there at least once.

I was born years after the war ended, and it was still really powerful and moving.

26. My husband and late dad are VN vets.....
...I lived through that horror of having loved ones in harm's way, and the good fortune of them coming home alive, but nothing prepares you for meeting that Wall. Your eyes fall on thousands of names, but your soul feels their spirit. A life block every one should check, and want to bitch-slap GWB even harder, for "Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam".

20. That's why DU is so wonderful
DUers do helpful things for one another, for democracy, and for society. Contributions for sick DUers, photos and rubbings of the Vietnam Memorial for a DUer across the country, group efforts to get important petitions signed, a DU demonstration at the DSM hearing to show support, etc.
