Favorite Ass-Kickings in Film! What are yours?
Mississippi Burning is on cable right now...featuring one of my all time favorite ass kickings in cinema history. Dh and I have a Great Ass Kickings' in Film List.

Some of ours are:

Shaft-pistol whipping the kid on the street so he won't bother the kid to hustle for him anymore.

Godfather-Sonny kicking brother in law's ass in the street.

What are yours?

:spank:

This scene was even more amazing when you consider that it was not really choreographed. Roddy Piper and Keith David actually BROKE the window of that parked car you see. They really got into it.

to get him to let go of the railing so he could thrash him some more. And nice use of the garbage can too.

Bruce Lee laid down some really noteworthy ones in his career too. Just about any fight out of the "Fists of Fury/Chinese Connection" duo will suffice.

21. "Witness" -- Harrison Ford
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 11:04 AM by bertha katzenengel
There's a scene when some ignorant assholes are antagonizing some Amish folks. One guy dabs his ice cream cone all over Alexander Gudonov's face. Well, Harrison Ford has just learned that the corrupt cops he's hiding from among the Amish have murdered his partner, and he's furious. He can't stand this guy taking advantage of the Amish peoples' pacifism and beats the CRAP out of him.

Alexander Gudonov explains to another group of tourists, who are shocked: "He's our cousin. From Ohio."

My favorite part - The tournament scene where the big white dude breaks a board in Bruce Lee's face and without blinking, Lee just looks at him and says "boards don't hit back" and then proceeds to open up a can of whoop-ass on the dude.

I had a mad crush on Bruce Lee. He was so beautiful.

As a former target of bullies, that one warmed my heart.

I hate bullies. I grew a big body, and then they didn't f**k with me anymore. I still don't like to fight, but bullies are too cowardly to try and find out. They don't go after anyone who looks like he can fight back. Hmm, just like the Bushies!

58. The funniest
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 07:57 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
was when "Bones", the loan shark boss in "Get Shorty" threw the telephone at Gene Hackman, the horror-film producer, then bounced him against the walls, as if he was playing squash. Which I suppose he was, in a way.

Just before that little contretemps, a local would-be hoodlum chief had rubbished his pistol as being unreliable, prone to jamming. "What? You mean like this...?" Bones enquired, as he emptied what seemed a dozen rounds in him.

106. That was so funny!
Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 05:27 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
It was obvious that "Bones" was more than a little familiar with that phrase and its significance. In fact he probably coined the bloody {probably literally) phrase!

And I loved the "Hey! Well done, Killer...!" (or something along those lines), someone called out to him - surgical collar and all - in the restaurant fore-court.

and it really outraged me. I had seen it years ago but it did not impact me as it did today.

Finally that asshole what's his name was finally brought to justice and given a 60-year sentence. But because he is 80 now, he will die in jail. Too bad all the others involved are out now, since they only received 10-year and less sentences.

shake hands (or something like that) first and then he KICKED the guy. ANd I remember they filmed it in such a way (from behind the man's legs and you see Newman's boot coming up) that, I swear, every man in the theater groaned out loud.

90. i like all of these in so far as the 'genre' goes...
but i'm partial to the fight scene in: treasure of the sierra madre, huston has that quality of association, perhaps brought on by his known willingness to 'mix it up' in his personal life  which imo made for a kick ass scene-play & seemed to speak to the 'why' things like that happen & just how quickly they can go out of control; very taught w/compression, release & resolution ~

Last time I watched it, he wasn't really uber famous yet. I've never watched the whole scene, it IS hard to watch--pretty violent towards Patricia if I recall correctly.

Edited on Mon Jun-27-05 05:47 PM by CBHagman
There was none of this unrealistic striding away after throwing a punch. They both staggered off, looking as though they were in pain, just as two real middle-aged men would after a fight (Not that I go around surveying people or something :-)).

I also love it went Ralphie goes nuts and tackles Scut Farkus in A Christmas Story.

And in terms of sheer moral justification for an ass-kicking, no one beats Bogart's character in Key Largo.

110. My favorite- Last of the Mohicans.
During our heroes rescue raid on the Huron war party at the film's climax. It's a linear dash through the Huron party. Uncas is in the lead, barrelling straight for the girls being held captive by Magua. Magua kills Uncas and pitches his body off of a cliff. Uncas' lover, utterly distraught, leaps to her death. Magua, in a look that shows both utter confusion and complete understanding, leads the party on. Only to be caught by the royally pissed off short, elderly Yoda-like Chingachgook. Who, with his trusty scimitar-like tomahawk, slices up the villain Magua like a Christmas ham.

Romanticism at its best.

the cowpokes by ordering whiskey (he had put a meek act on before) and then dumps the whiskey on one of the cowboys. Van Heflin gets in on it too aiding Shane (Alan Ladd) and it is one of the best barfight scenes I can remember.

And then there is Braveheart taking out the English garrison in revenge for the death of his wife.
