2. Yes, but you might have to live in Harlem to do it |
|
If you can find a rent stabalized apartment.
I survived on a bit less than that, but wasn't finally living secure until I went above that amount. Though that was also with me putting 15% into my 401(k) and another 10% in corporate stock, so I was only taking home 75% of my pay.

3. You can survive - but it depends on the standard of living you |
|
wish to maintain. If you want your own apartment in Manhattan, it's going to set you back more than sharing an apartment or living in the boroughs.
You can definitely manage on $60k, but you won't be living the high life.

4. I do on less than that ... |
|
but I've been in my rent stabilized apartment for over 20 years. I wouldn't say I'm living it up but I'm fairly comfortable, have lots of things to do, save money by not needing a car and by doing a lot of my own cooking.

5. Yeah, if you don't mind living in a packing crate with two roommates. |

6. If you can keep your rent below $1100/mo you'll be all right. |

8. If it's just you, it's no problem |
|
I do it on $40,000 a year, which is very tight, but with an additional $20,000 to play with, I'd be in hog heaven.
