What meal takes you back to your childhood?
For me it is fried mullet, cheese grits, coleslaw and hushpuppies.

Some years we had it for Christmas dinner. My momma would stand out in the yard frying a mess of fish in a gas fish cooker. We would eat at the picnic table at my grandma's house under the magnolia.

Can anyone tell I'm from the South?

12. Well, nobody's perfect.
I had a flat in Tallahassee over spring break. Hard to find hotels in Tallahassee over spring break. Other than that, I like the city. There's a Golden Coral across from a little park with a pond that my kids loved playing at.

I wouldn't touch the stuff nowadays, but we had it often when I was very small and my folks weren't well off. I just about died laughing when I heard Terrence and Phillip on South Park making a reference to Kraft Dinners, as in "When I die, please bury me with a side of Kraft Dinner..." :P

That definately takes me back.. okra too. Sweet potato casserole.

Grew up in the south, but from itallian stock, so the meal that most takes me back is chicken parm with a big ole pot of spaghetti and meatballs with grandpa recipe from the old country.

I used to get them all of the time when I went out to eat with my grandparents at a diner in my hometown. Later in life I'd get the Clamboat Platter at Friendly's. (I've since become a vegetarian so the clams are off my menu).

41. Melanga
(Eggplant Parmesan for the non-Italian)

From the time I was a babe that was a special occasion staple- slices of eggplant dipped in egg and milk and seasoned bread crumbs and grated cheese and then fried and baked in a casserole with sauce and mozzarella. That smell brings back the graceful lilt of my Grandma's voice and a bunch of Italian relatives scattered around the rooms eating and running their mouths....

Now I want some. Bother....
