So I go to nephews Bday Party & freepers were there en masse
They drank their beers and they talked about the poor missing rich white girl and how they can't stand to miss any of Faux News coverage of the whole thing.

They drank their beer and they made fun of friends (not in attendence) who had no idea about the missing girl. They drank their beer and they laughed, unable to understand how anyone could miss the leading news story of the day.

They drank their beer and they talked about Michael Jackson and the Faux coverage and the trial and how guilty he was.

But the clincher, the thing that made me loss it, was when they talked about that poor old 80 year old Killien man and how stupid it was that he was given 60 years to serve. How our tax dollars were going to pay for his medical needs now and what a waste of money it was.

Well, I lost it, I loudly interjected that not a one of them had a clue about the medical care was at Parchman and that it ain't no picnic and it's not the quality of care that he would get if he was on the outside, not to mention the quality of care he has been afforded over the last 40 years as he dodged justice -

OH AND YEAH, BY THE WAY HE MURDERED 3 PEOPLE.

Now I know that members of my family will not talk to me for weeks.

It's hell to be the only liberal at a bday party in a red state.

Guess what state I live in!

9. Sorry for the suckiness!
I'm in Texas. Can empathize.

I recently read "We are Not Afraid," an amazing book. Taught me more than I could ever have known about the whole event. And all the figures involved.

I have so much more respect for the bus riders, the lunch counter sitters....I grew up so sheltered, and in a Republican, racist household.

That book gave me nightmares thinking of all the brave people standing up to SO MUCH HATE. It's amazing how many assholes still subscribe to it.

Peace, hon.
Fight the power.

12. Thanks.
I used to wonder as a kid, what would I have done if I had been a young adult during the anti-war movement or the civil rights movement. I don't know if I could have been so brave.

It's very painful to sit and listen to that stuff and not react. In the past, I'm been "reprimanded" for walking away from the conversations. Damned if I do and damned if I don't?

30. I've been known to let my emotions take over when confronted with these..
types of assholes.

A friend and I went to one of her acquaintances' apartments once. They (not her) started making fun of whatever black-oriented band was on SNL- I forget who- it was like 1994.

I dealt with enough of this shit from my mom growing up, and just won't do it anymore. I'd recently gotten a job in downtown Dallas, and I was the minority. Everyone I worked with was black, and I considered them my friends.

Hearing this crap set me OFF. And my friend got mad at me later for making a scene. I don't know who I was angrier with. Them, for doing it, or her for defending them.

We have to stick up and be who we are. We are the decent ones here; the peacemakers, the human beings caring for other beings. Don't let it get you down. I'd have done the same thing again, even though this guy was twice my size. I didn't care that it was place. He was still a monumental racist asshole.

39. I guess there comes a time when we have to decide
if it is even worth it to go to the functions where things like this happen. I know that is how I feel today.

I will never change so why do I think they can change?

4. Hey, sweetie.
Next time I'm on the coast, we'll have some drinks.

I was at the Killen trial. I talked to a member of the prosecution team. He said that Killen's frail act was just that--an act. He said that they had video of Killen mowing his yard two weeks before the trial began.

I've talked to LOTS of people since the trial. All of them, white and black, have agreed that the devil needed to spend the remainder of his life in Parchman.

Indeed, in a recent Zogby poll, 83% of Mississippians supported taking Killen to trial. Don't let anyone tell you that it wasn't a good thing without you telling them that, this time, they are in the minority.

18. That's how they have the parties.
Stock the ice chests, gas up the grill and put out the toys for the kids (slippery slide, blow up pools, slides, etc).

The kids play and the folks visit and talk and talk and talk!

8. If they won't talk to you,
you know for sure that we will! :hi:

Bless you for speaking out.

Maybe you should have asked them if they would have preferred if he got the death penalty.

Or ask them "did you leave your sheet at home, or is it at the laundry?"

Or remark, "it's amazing you can get your beer to your mouth, with your knuckles way down there on the floor."

Or simply state, "It's obvious you didn't get the MEMO yet." (and leave them wondering what the hell you're talking about.)

I think that one of the in-laws family members was a part of the klan, the way he acts, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I wish I had thought of this one:

Or simply state, "It's obvious you didn't get the MEMO yet." (and leave them wondering what the hell you're talking about.)

Do they have long sleeved tees?

It will be Thanksgiving before I am invited back to my brother's house. Which would be okay, if it weren't for his two babies that I love so much. The lord knows it hard enough to worry about them growing up in this crazy world, but growing up in this crazy world with freepers as their role models. :scared: I'll have nightmares, I just know it.

I think it's so great that the one thing he'd planned on being able to get away with, is the thing that will not only haunt him during his last years, but make them miserable.

He deserves it! I hope he burns in hell. There, I said it!

I pointed out that thousands of people, including small children, are missing and don't get the national coverage that this girl has gotten.

They just said it was important, if it was their child, what did I have against her family, yada yada.

It's not any better up north, believe me. My relatives would probably have different views on Killien than your family, well most of them anyway, but would still rant and rave about politics till the cows came home.

You may feel alone in your family but there are many others out there just like you.
