Peter Jackson really messed up on Return of the King. |

The theatrical version was pretty good, but I just saw the extended version and there were scenes in it that he should not have cut. first of all, if he cut any scenes they should have been the love-dovey scenes between Aragorn / Arwen or Aragorn / Eowyn.:boring: Two scenes that were fantastic that got cut involved Mordor. The first one was the one where Frodo ans Sam were wearing the Orcish armor and were mistaken for Orcs and had to fall in line with them. The other one was when The army of Gondor approached the Black Gate and they were confronted with Sauron's Mouthpiece. Both those scenes gave the "enemy" much greater depth. Plus cutting those scenes created continuity problems as Frodo and Sam had on the Orc garb in one scene and then in the next they didn't. One other point, the scene where Eowyn kills the Nazgul King, that was way more powerful in the book, hell even the cartoon did a better job of addressing that in the animated version. Too bad Jackson dropped the ball on those scenes "The Return of the King" would have been a much better film.

1. Can't agree with you more about Eowyn vs. Witch King |
|
It plays MUCH better in the book.
I was also disappointed that more wasn't done with Faramir and Eowyn.
After all, Peter spent a lot of time with both characters, showing their heartaches and misery. It would have been nice to see more of how they found healing in each other.

I love that scene in the book, I didn't realize it had been filmed. Now I need to see it.

3. Check it out, it's on the extended version. |
|
I liked that there was a character that gave Sauron a little more depth.

4. At least he did the extended versions.. |
|
I wish George Lucas would have done the same with the Star Wars movies--released both theatrical versions and then extended versions with the deleted scenes put back in the movie.
There are so many movies that would be better if there were a version including the deleted scenes...

He always puts the "deleted scenes" seperate from the actual film. And you need to go through some annoying menu to watch them one by one, what's that about?!?! :grr:

5. We have all 3 extended versions.. |
|
And I agree with you, if anything they should have cut the lovey crap. There were scenes cut out of the the other two that I wish they hadn't have cut, but then again, having the extended versions it doesn't make a difference because I get to see a lot more. Lol.
My one big complaint... is that they didn't put Tom Bombadil in the movie! He was my favorite character when I read the book.

I think that they should have put the "Scouring of the Shire" in there as well. Saruman dying by falling from Orthanc was lame Hollywood bullshit.

the ending in the book was faaaar better than the crappy hollywood ending... I mean, come on... why is it that *all* movies have to have a happy go lucky ending anymore?! *sighs*

I was really disappointed that he cut all the sex scenes between Frodo and Sam.
