It's official. I am freaking insane. |
|
After two weeks of chronic insomnia, I have not slept in 48 hours. My longest stretch yet. Oddly enough, I am not yet tired. I just walked to Starbucks to try to drug myself so I won't crash before my 11AM job interview. I need this job to put me on a regular sleep schedule, and because it will help my bank account. I am totally broke after not working for a month. I am going to have to borrow money to renew my lease so I can have somewhere to live. I hope I get this job. Keep your collective fingers crossed.
I am going insane. I have to get this job!

4. some insomnia advice... |
|
I have periodic insomnia...it comes in bouts of several days at a time, then goes away for a while (I have no idea why).
several things I've learned over the years:
1. REST IS AS GOOD AS SLEEP. Don't stress that you're not sleeping. If you are getting worked up TRYING to fall asleep, then you lose both sleep AND rest. If you can't sleep, just laying in bed relaxing is still good for you. Laying in bed and stressing is not.
2. Give yourself a time limit. If you do not fall asleep within a certain amount of time (whatever arbitrary time you prefer), then get up and do some waking activity: watch tv, read a book, work on the computer. This helps get your mind focused on something else, and allows you to become sleepy again.
3. don't focus on "lost sleep". That's like bemoaning money lost on gambling. It does not bring the money back to obsess on it. Instead, going forward, fix on gaining as much rest as possible.
4. When laying in bed, occupy your mind in some sort of complicated, nonphysical daydreaming. For me, I'll mentally plot out a short story I might want to write in the future. I try to conjure up in my mind what the characters would look like, to play a little movie in my mind. Before too long, I'm drifting off asleep.

I am leaving right now. I don't know exactly where I am going, so it is better to leave a little early. I am so nervous:scared:

7. We'll be waiting to hear how it went when you get back |
|
I keep some boring books near my bed for insomnia. Nothing worse then lying awake at 2am thinking about bills, retirement (or lack of), etc.
A dull book might take your mind off the demons that keep you awake.
