Obscure lyrics: Has anyone other than me ever heard this song?
And if so, what are the rest of the lyrics?

(calypso)

Day after day
More people come to LA
Shhh! Don't you tell nobody
The whole place shakin' away!

Where can we go
When there's no San Francisco?
Ooo Oooo What can you do with a bushel of wet gold?

Do you know the swim?
Ya better learn quick kid.
Those who don't know the swim
Better sing the hymn.

Back around 1969 or so, they used to play this song on a local radio station every now and then, but I have never been able to find anyone who has heard the song since. And I can't find the rest of the lyrics.

Has anyone else ever heard this song? Or was it the product of a strange dream during puberty?????

6. Interesting
Shango is the name of Trinidad's version of the hybrid religion that is practiced on other islands as Santeria, Candomble, or Voudun (Voodoo). I played and sang in a calypso band some years ago (another case of white boys getting back to somebody else's roots) and we did a couple songs dealing specifically with the weird rites of Shango. In some ways they were the coolest songs in our book.

Little has been written about Shango since they really don't even qualify as a "one-hit wonder." Their song "Day After Day (It's Slippin' Away)" reached #57 nationally in 1969 and spent just 7 weeks on the charts. It looks as if it was a bigger hit in California, among other places and the single was on A&M 1014. It is indeed about California and earthquakes.

The album was on A&M SP 4195 and was simply called "Shango." Songs were: Day After Day/Liuba Liuba/Hey Jude/Sunshine Superman/Taste of Honey/Mama Lion/Um Um/Mescalito/Ob La Di, Ob La Da/Cowboys & Indians

The group was a quartet and included Tommy Reynolds, who later was a member of Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds, a group which had a few hits and is best known for "Don't Pull Your Love" in 1971.

Here is a link to the complete lyrics of Day After Day:
