So has anybody actual TRIED fried chicken with corn flakes? |
|
I mean corn flakes are just pressed corn meal with sugar added. I have no idea why that couldn't make a prefectly decent breading.

Just make sure to get generic non-sugar coated corn flakes, not Frosted Flakes (like we mistakenly did once). Although the Frosted Flakes didn't turn out so bad, they were just 'caramalized' on the outside from the sugar.
We take the corn flakes, crush them up to where they're a kind of fine sandy consistency then bread the chicken in it. It tastes marvelous. Kind of like if you battered it in tempura.

17. I tried that a long time ago. |

It was delicious. It must have been on the back of the Corn Flake box.

24. My husband and I tried it |
|
by accident, actually.
We were having a hankering for fried chicken and thought we had all the fixin's---
So we get the chicken ready, heat up the oil, get some mac-n-cheese baking in the oven when OH MY GOD WE DON'T HAVE ANY BREADCRUMBS....
No problem...let's just use OH MY GOD WE DON'T HAVE ANY FLOUR!!!!!
So we were depressed...this scrumptious meal just WAITING to be made and kablooie...all down the drain.
Wait, though...we have corn flakes...let's just mush those up and use them as batter...it can't taste that bad...can't taste worse than no chicken at all.....
Well it was a DREAM!!! Best breading EVAH

10. Skinner has allowed posts about chicken - |
|
however, he did not give the green light to bring up old flame wars. Please don't push the issue and create threads with that intention. Thanks.

13. And in that light, I think the best breading |
|
is a combination of flour and cornmeal, with plenty of salt and pepper in the mix. The more pepper, the better.
It's also essential to double-dip the chicken parts.
1) milk 2) flour 3) egg/milk 4) flour/cornmeal combo
let it rest on a plate while your fat heats up, then FRY!

15. No sugar. I'm a purist. |
|
But a fried chicken dinner MUST accompanied by an orange jello carrot and raisin salad with marshmallows.
Or a loaf of soft spongy white bread, a stick of butter, and a jar of homemade strawberry jam.
