Chinese Melon Carvings?

According to this e-mail a friend just sent me "In China, they carve watermelons (similar to what we do at Halloween). Below are the winners of a recent contest:

actually from China. :). It could be from Thailand for all I know, the person that sent them to me normally just repeats whatever she's told by someone else :).
