3. Probably oil & vinegar. That is what all of the |
|
homestyle Italian restaurants do around here. They already have it all over the salad!!Mmmm. And as much as people can't stand Olive Garden, I LOVE their salads!!!!!!

7. Is it a liberal thing? |
|
Would conservatives like it better if it were Blue Cheese -- and not the *gasp* French spelling? I swear that I don't know a single conservative who will touch bleu cheese dressing.

Plenty of liberals don't like bleu cheese (it's an acquired taste -- I didn't start liking it until I was in college), but I've never met a single Republican who likes it. Ranch Dressing. Maybe some Italian or 1000 Island. But never bleu cheese.

5. classic caesar-- here's my recipe.... |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 04:20 PM by mike_c
Dressing:
1 clove garlic, peeled and pounded to a homogenous paste in a mortar-and-pestle with 1/4 tsp salt. 1/4 tsp dijon mustard 1/4 tsp anchovy paste a few drops (no more) of Tabasco sauce and Worcestershire sauce juice of 1/2 lemon 1 egg yolk 1 Tbsp good white wine vinegar or other vinegar to taste 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
Whisk together all the ingredients other than the oil a few times until well blended. Slowly whisk in the oil until the dressing is emulsified. Makes three or four servings of dressing. Keeps in the refrigerator for a couple of days.
Tear one romaine lettuce heart per two servings into bite sized pieces. Wash and spin dry. Toss with some of the dressing until the lettuce is lightly coated. Grate some fresh parmegano reggiano over the salad and toss to distribute. Add some croutons and toss again. Season with freshly ground black pepper.
I like to make a meal of this by eating a whole lettuce heart myself, with some leftover roast chicken, or ham, or thinly sliced grilled beef mixed in.
on edit: I like this salad so much that I eat some variant of it 4 or 5 times a week and never get tired of it. I just finished eating it for lunch!
