Just saw War of the Worlds - and I loved it!
There are some really harrowing scenes of crowd panic, which were very realistic to me. People shooting other people to get their hands on a car. The machines themselves were much scarier than in the 50's Gene Barry movie, and the special effects were pretty good. I'm not a big Cruise fan but he didn't suck too much - and Dakota Fanning was excellent.
I've now got the 70's Jeff Wayne album running through my head - OOOOLLLAAAAHHH!

1. Love that album
Sure, may be a bit cheesy and has a bit of a disco beat at times but RIchard Burton's narration and a few of the songs are just perfect.

3. Yeah, it's a pity they didn't use his narration
His voice was just perfect, always.

11. thanks for the review
I wanted to go see it, too, but was hoping someone here would comment on it.

I have that Jeff Wayne album and the accompanying album booklet. Can't get it out of my head now!

2. It sounds like a big hit with the public
and a flop with the critics. I think the critics have forgotten that movies are supposed to be fun.

I'm going to try to see it tomorrow.

7. Did stuff get blowed up good?
That's what I like in a movie. :sarcasm:

8. Why the sarcasm?
The most harrowing parts were, as I said, the crowd scenes of panic and desperation, which were all too credible.

9. Glad to hear it...
I was thinking of going to see this one. I haven't been to a theater in 5 years.
