Poll question: Walking up escalators - yes or no? |
|
Do you walk up the escalator, or do you stand still? In Atlanta (I think) the escalators to the Marta say to walk up them, but in general, do you walk up them if there is no one in front of you or do you just stand still?

2. escalators are meant to be walked up |
|
if you can not walk you should be taking an elevator or standing off to the right side.. that is the best thing about large cities, people know that.. in smaller cities such as my own.. people stand two by two blocking all access of anyone who wants to pass them..

I sometimes walk up them - but you can't fit the volume of people on an elevator as you can an escalator.
Elevators are for those who have "wheels" they have to deal with.

15. If they're meant to be walked up, |
|
why not just have stairs? No room for confusion then.

"An escalator can never break. It can only become stairs. You would never seen an Escalator temporarily out of order sign, just Escalator temporarily stairs. Sorry for the convenience."

If you can be calm - then you DO NOT UNDERSTAND the situation!
Actually, if you get some excercise, you breathe even more. Funny how slow people will go when they are walking, but in their cars it is zoom, zoom, zoom. I am just the opposite, walk fast, drive slowly. On those moving sidewalks at the airport I was weaving in and out of traffic and making moves like Chuck Foreman. Outta my way, you lazy blobs!

18. Yeah, the moving sidewalks I actually condone walking on |
|
But on escalators I just like to lean against the rail and just let nature take its course for a minute, haha. I'm in no rush. And there's usually enough room for anyone that wants to walk up to pass me.

11. I don't walk IF I use the escalator. |
|
I usually don't use them, except in the mornings when I'm tired, the coffee hasn't kicked in yet and I don't feel like climbing the stairs out of the train station. :hangover:

If a person feels like walking up them, and doesn't rudely shove past those who've opted not to, then that's fine. But, I don't think people should feel compelled to. What's the point of having the steps move if people are supposed to walk up them? Why not just simply build a set of steps? They move so you don't have to. If you can safely walk up without pushing people out of the way, then go for it. Otherwise, it's rude.

14. I admit. I walk up escalators (if my kids aren't with me). |
|
I do stop when I get to another person, though.
