1. Did you notice how dark it got first? |
|
I was not so patiently waiting for the first thunderclap. I hope it's more than a shower!

that the length of the storm actually can be determined by the downpour?
The heavier the rain, the shorter the duration of the storm. I don't know why this is, but it was something I learned quite some time ago. It doesn't work all the time, but it's ahead of the probability curve.

2. Yay, now when it heats up again this weekend, it'll be even muggier |
|
than it was last weekend :)
I kid. I have no problems with rain (especially if it helps fill in the ponds over at Great Meadows again so the birds will start hanging out longer for me to take pictures of :)

4. I hate them! Too much noise, too much lightening, too much |
|
stress on the nerves being all alone in the woods with too many trees around the house.
There was one here about 45 minutes ago. Enough already!

But, down here they get really, really violent. Sometimes a tad scarier than I would like.

Apparently the storm front hasn't made it downtown yet.
It will probably coincide exactly with my trudge home :spray:

10. The exploding watermelon barometer. |
|
We had a big, big, BIG thunderstorm blow in the other day. It was a nice sunny afternoon then this big purple malicious looking bastard blows in. It just had that beautiful classic anvil shape that proper thunderstorms are supposed to have. When it loomed over us, you could literally FEEL the storm on your skin. I guessed it was a massive change in barometric pressure, but not having a barometer it was just a guess.
Anyway, I went to get a beer from the fridge. We had a half watermelon in there, covered with saran wrap. I open the fridge door and watermelon juice was just pouring out literally. Juice and seeds everywhere, the "meat" was just falling out of the rind.
I'd never seen anything like that before.

If I watered like I should, I'd go broke. My poor lawn. :(
But hey, at least my flowering plants are drought-resistant.

Heavy rain, hail and wind so strong that it uprooted a 25+ year old tree on Franklin avenue.
