2. I feel more like we're living "Farenheit 451" - in that story
the people seem to relish being sheep.

5. Orwell's family should sue the regime for copyright violation

And they might want to join up with Kafka's folks and make it a class action suit.

7. Great music and pop culture that year
and the way things are going now, Ronald Reagan would be an improvement.

9. Seems More like Brave New World
We have been lulled into accepting and desiring our fate. There is very little need for coercion in America today;we have abdicated our civic responsibilities in lieu fo seeking pleasure, materialism, and entertainment. It's true that there is Orwellian "Newspeak" everywhere but from what I have seen, its not likely most people would be any more pro-active to change even if they are faced with the truth about how marginlized we have become.

God Help us all!

10. I agree we are in "The Brave new world" not 1984
Orwell is grinning from the grave with envy at Huxley’s accuracy at calling our society today. A must read is BNW Revisited it is far more chilling than Orwell’s 1984.

Why is it more chilling? More of Huxley’s Prophetic predictions have come true. Huxley predicted that we (the bewildered herd) would grow to love our servitude; Orwell thought it would be forced upon us.
